Suggestion for Handwriting Calculator

Thu, 2009-04-09 07:03 vikvig: Feature request.

This amazing initiative,

In the future updates i would like to see support for the following

1. Factorial calculation.
2. Permutation and combination calculation.
3. Logarithm to any base.
4. Solving linear equations, may be support for 1variable and 2 variable can be done first.
5. Also nth root calculation.
6. Complex number calculations like root of negative numbers.

One usability issue.

The top soft key should be clear when the result of the calculation is being displayed.

Thanks,
Vikram

I would like for it to be able to solve for variables as well. That would be a great feature. Also if it could show the work as it goes it would be a useful learning tool.

The ability to Graph an equation would also be nice. Not sure how much work that would be.

It could be great if they made it work together with the handwritting trainer, so it knows you handwritting style better.

I use the Nokia 5800 XM (danish)

Save result(s) as a,b, and so on. Formula in history could be nice to use as copy and save to memory that can be used in calculator. Function to convert degrees, arc minutes and arc seconds to decimals and reverse would be nice. Very nice calculator that would be fine with memory functions.

Thu, 2009-08-06 01:31 escribblings: 5. nth root calculation & 6. root of negative numbers

whilst drawing the root symbol does not work for either of these, they ARE possible.

for nth root try N^1/n eg 27^1/3 = 3 3x3x3=27

this works for -ve numbers too, try -N^1/n e.g -27^1/3 = (-3)x(-3)x(-3)

[edit]

what is -9^2

well, that depends on what you actually mean.

(-9)^2 = -9x-9 = 81

OR

-(9^2) = -(9x9) = -81

HC treats the expression -9^2 as -(9^2) so to get the other answe you NEED to enter it as (-9)^2.

Thu, 2009-08-06 01:31 escribblings: in response to my previous

in response to my previous point about negative square roots - (-81)^1/2 gives the answer "NaN", where -81^1/2 or -(81^1/2) = -9
