Thu, 2009-04-16 01:06 lior: Direct Sharing - unique cool capability only on Nokia handsets using this client

This is a unique feature that only Nokia handset coupled with this latest client provides.

Basically it enables you to capture your experiences using the camera on the device and then share it instantly with your friends or family by clicking on "send-->Share on Ovi" button in the toolbar in the camera (after you take the photo) or Gallery/Photos application. No need to use a PC or create an album before. Just capture the moment and share it straight from your Nokia handset

Now what's the difference between Share online Direct Sharing via Ovi from MMS? what's the big deal?

Before I lists the key advantage let me tell you how it makes my life more powerful:
I have 2 young kids, one of them is making his first steps now. My parents and the rest of the family live in a different country and always want to see the more and more photos and videos of my kids.
So now, I capture my kids first steps or other priceless moment using the camera in my Nokia handset and with one click upload them to Ovi to enable my family to enjoy it as it happen. Moreover they can see where and when it happen (Geo-Location and time/date information are automatically attached to the photo or video). I can even share it directly with my mother and she will be able to experience it immediately (that keeps her off my back and make her happy).

So the key advantages are:
* when you share it via Ovi, the client uploads the photo or video to Ovi, and sends a link to the recipient via email/SMS.

* the recipients will view the photo optimized for the screen they use. So for example if the recipients use a PC/Mac they will see the highest quality of the photo or video (the quality that your camera on the phone captured it). If they use a Nokia handset or any other vendor handset, it will be a photo or video optimize for that phone screen or video that the phone supports.

* Since you use Share online 4.3 and Ovi as the service, it will attach all the contextualized information associate with that photo or video, like Geo-location or cell-id location (in case you enabled it in the camera setting), also the time and date and any other comment you added. THUS the recipients will be able to see also where and when the photo was taken.

* also the recipient will be able to comment on it, download it, view past sharing photos (history) and re-share it. - Actually able to do something with it and connect with you via the photo more deeply.

This is MMS done right!!!!

And if you do not have a data plan, not to worry, capture the photos and share/upload them via Ovi. the Share online client will queue the requests and once you have a WLAN connectivity it will upload/share them automatically.
