Installation Instructions are critical

I'm seeing a few people encountering installation instructions. I know reading installation instructions isn't the most popular thing in the world, but in order to correctly install this pre-release, you need to send yourself the installation SMS, as instructed below here. Install the .sis file, and when the email setup screen appears, stop there From your PC, go to https://email.nokia.com If you already have a Nokia Messaging account Select "Log in" Enter your primary email address and password Select "Install now" Enter your phone number, select any device, then select "Next" If you do not have a Nokia Messaging Account account Select "Sign up" Select any device and complete the simple 3 step signup process Wait for the SMS to arrive on your device. Select "Start", enter your password, and log in -Davis Fields Nokia Messaging

You should know that the

You should know that the 5800 is not on your list of compatible phones when registering for this app. I had to choose the n95. Also, the fact that this email app, which has been in beta for 3rd edition for a very long time all ready, does not even support any sort of visual notification renders it practically useless and far inferior to the built in email app. I would love to hear what the reason for this is as it's a very basic and expected function. It's careless problems like this that make it hard for us nokia loyalists to defend our products against supporters of other brands such as the iphone.

Installation Instructions are unclear

Hello, i live in Romania so i need to do the sms thing.
1. I have installed the sis (5800 version v10.xxxx .... downloaded from this website).
2. I have created an account with https://email.nokia.com and i selected N73 as my device because 5800 is not in the list.
3. I have recived an SMS containing a link "Open this link...". The link downloads version v9.xxx....
4. I have discarded the downloaded version since it is v9 and it is not supported by my phone
5. I clicked START on the screen that i had left waiting since installing v10 and it configured an email account in my old email client (default 5800 client)

What am i doing wrong ?

Phone needed restart

Ok, just for the others having this problem to know, the phone simply needed a restart!
Before (i tried twice) setup would have completed and i only got an "Email setup" icon, not the "Email" icon itself! And the behavior was like i described above!
After restarting the phone, the setup went along differently, and the phone asked for another restart, after witch i got the SMS provisioning screen for the first time and everything went ok!

@Pastia : Can you please

@Pastia : Can you please elaborate what you did. I am facing the same issue. I tried the restart as well. My issue seems to be same. Along with that I do not find the SMS provisioning message stored anywhere. So I tried this first, installed the sis file (V10). Restarted the phone. Went to the browser to request for the sms. Got the sms provisioning sms and another sms to download. On the sms provisioning sms clicked on start and "Contacting Server" message appears. Here is where it stops. Its not able to contact the server.

Problems with instalation

I have followed the steps as instructed, i have received the sms and after that in the top left corner the message sms provisioning appears an on the bottom of the screen it says contacting server and it stays like that..Is this taking too long because of the Gprs connection! How can i delete a mail account from my messaging menu because i have 4 of them already?
Thanks!

To delete mail accounts from messaging folder

Let me help you. I have the same issue as yours. I have still not able to find a solution. In the meantime to delete the mail accounts in the messaging folder go to "Settings->Phone->Application Sett->Messaging->Email->Mailboxes->" Delete what you want to delete.

Thx Davis for the

Thx Davis for the instructions, but just one piece needs to be added to the list.

Add to the list user must wait for sms, but do not open it nor open the link, all is needed is the sms to be received, then one can follow select start.
It should then prompt the user just the user "password" NOT enter an email address which means the process has gone wrong.

It was kinda a grey area for me, till i got around it.

Well i was waiting for the message as said before but when I press start it says : Connecting to server and it stays like that or it freezes and i have to take out the battery in order to have the phone working again. After removing and placing back the battery i am able to acces the e-mail icon from applications and i am required to enter the password but i get the following message: Server not found! please check the name of the server and try again. Any idea?

Connecting to email

Hi
I did follow the instructions, I restarted and I reach the login screen that required password. I did enter the password, the GPRS connection activated and the message that the server cannot reached appeared. I have tried many times, I cannot connect to the server

Any ideas?

Re: Installation Instructions are critical

David, unfortunately the post does not provide any new information. I have read all what you have mentioned (which is exactly what mentioned on the application's page). My problem is with after entering the email and password after receiving that sms: "unable to connect to the server" error. I am using a wifi connection and there is NO problem with that as I have a page open which assures that I have my connection alive.

Can anyone help?

@snowy: Thanks for the

@snowy: Thanks for the pointers. Updated the installation instructions as you suggested.

@proshut: As snowy said, if you are prompted for an email address, something went wrong. In your case, it is probably caused by not having a GPRS connection available. Wifi can be used for the client itself, but a GRPS connection is required during setup. We have received a ton of feedback here and are looking for ways to improve.

SMS Provisioning lockup

Hi,
I'm trying to install on my N97 but everytime I try to do the SMS part ("SMS Provisioning") it starts, brings up the "Contacing server" message, connects to 3G, flashes to message a couple of times then never does anything. I can see the activity bar still moving but the time never changes. Some times I can break it out by holding the end call button.

I've tried restarting it after the sis install and even removing mail for exchange to see if that would help.

Any ideas?

V30 Problems ??

I have recently upgraded software on my 5800 from V21 to V30. Nokia messaging was working perfectly in V21. However, inspite of various attempts of installation/restarting/etc., I just cannot get the HTML email client installed. I have tried it thro SMS and also downloading from site. It just adds the Email box to the Messaging Folder. Has anyone successfully installed the Nokia Messaging ver. 10.0 in the new system software V30 ? Any help will be appreciated.

Finally got it working !!

Just wanted you guys to know that I finally did manage to get Nokia Messaging working again after V30 upgrade.

Earlier, I was facing the same problem as "matcstone" - lockup during sms provisioning.

I followed the laid down procedure thro SMS. Only difference was that I waited for the entire SMS Provisioning procedure to be completed. This time also I got the "Contacting Server.." message, but then it did not lockup the phone. I restarted the 5800 and got the "@ Login password" screen at startup, which finally showed the HTML Nokia messaging screen of all my accounts.

Hope this helps !

Its really a pathetic method of installation

Application seem great on video but i am extremly disappointed with the installation process as phone keep on hanging during SMS Provisioning and I guess nobody has been able to work out a solution from last 3-4 month, so what is the point asking for feedback

Worked before, not anymore

I restored the n97 and redownloaded the the program from email.nokia.com with the phone. And everytime I try to start it, it brings me to the email set-up; as the other users said, the set-up first asks the be allowed to use network for data transfer, then it asks for the email and password. At the end, only a regular mail box has been set up. The program just cannot be started. I've tried it with wifi, no wifi, connected to the computer or not, it's just not working. It has worked before. Now I just can't get to the login page.

@cedrych: try re-sending the SMS from email.nokia.com

Try re-requesting the SMS from http://email.nokia.com as the receipt of this sms should start Nokia Messaging in diffeernt setup routine just requesting your password and access point.

Always starts setup

I've the same problem as cedrych, when I try to start it, it allways brings me to setup mode, but I can't request SMS, because my account was expired because it never validate me right, i'm spain movistar data user plan, so it should validate me. How can I try to validate my account?
