Discussion for Nokia Easy Meet

Mon, 2009-05-04 20:17 snowy: Scale chat

Hey, thx for the live meeting!!!

The chat page needs some scaling.

First thing while doing a chat i must scroll to the right of the page so i may press the scroll down bar to follow chat, but afterward i need to scale back left to be able to view the whole chat. Did not feel natural or re flowed.

While typing using the n85, only a line and a half was available to type in which was only viewable by a line and a half, so i couldnt see what i was typing.
Also increase the size of text entry box.

*P.S After log in, the front slide of the ppt show, to download it is required to click file list then choose the file to download rather that just clicking on the image to have an auto download. just to save a few steps and time. Oh and it needed a bit smart to figure out where to get the slide, it didnt feel naturally presented.

Oh yeah i attended the meeting via mobile, so all reference here is for mobile.

Tue, 2009-05-05 16:03 alee8: Simply show only what is being typed when entering a chat messag

Snowy,

Thanks for raising the issue with scrolling.

On another comment that you made, would you want to see the chat messages of the other people at the same time that you are typing a message? That is, if we took over the whole or 3/4 of the display for you to type your message, would that be desirable?

Wed, 2009-05-06 21:43 snowy: Hello alee8,

Hello alee8,

To come back to your question, as i think about it i prefer the chat to stay static, so i may see if i am responding to someone and a question. If it was dynamic i would have the need to keep scrolling up to provide a proper response. I hope this helps.

Now back to about scaling, i took a further look into it.
To click down or up on the scroll bar it only moves once, not continues, also, i am required to move the cursor off position than back into position to continue the next one click scroll.

Also say i am at the end of the chat and decide to look at another tab, when i return to the chat tab the discussion returns to the top.

Hope this helps some more, and that i was clear, if not just let me know.

P.S Copy Paste from the chat box would be a nice addition.

Some form of time and date stamp for comments?

Thu, 2009-05-07 08:19 mbrett: I Agree

Morning Snowy. I agree with everything you have suggested. My ideal would be to be able to copy and paste using the usual Nokia message, using the pencil button and selecting the specific text, but this would not be possible (I think) as the meeting is using the browser, which does not enabling copy and paste in this method from the website. The copy option would have to be built into the webpage unless a standalone phone app. were created so as to remove the need for the Web Browser.

Do like the updates to the webpage though much tidier. Could still be simplified further for mobile users as load time is still a while, but there would be a risk of over simplification. Looking good guys.

Ideally I would assume you may want to download/backup the whole meeting in separate files, but in the mobile short-term you may need to copy and paste specific sections of the chat.

BTW: Snowy. Have you tried the adaptxt BETA trial. Takes a little while to get used to and has it's issues, but makes mobile blogging and texting much quicker.

Thu, 2009-05-07 15:52 uchandra: Downloading time

The downloading time is something which we have been trying to reduce without losing the functionality. We have come down from almost a minute to 25-30 seconds (on 3G network). But there are lot of variables like networks, the device you are using, the caching mechanism of your device etc. The ideal scenario being you are using on a 3G network, the JS/CSS are all cached on your device. In that case the start-up time is still "bearable". But yes we want to bring down the conference page load time further.

As for the meeting details, the entire meeting is actually stored in the data base - the files shared, the annotations, chat content, minutes etc are also stored in the database which can later be retrieved. We currently dont have search mechanism in Easy Meet to go back and look up your meeting, but we do plan to search feature on your past meetings based on chat content, participants, file shared etc.

Fri, 2009-05-08 04:16 alee8: Quirkiness of the scrollbar and switching between tabs

Snowy,

Thanks for pointing out the quirkiness of the scrollbar and the fact that chat message switches back to top when you come back to this tab view. We'll take a look at both to see if any workarounds can be found.

Sun, 2009-05-10 05:07 snowy: Excellent observation

Excellent observation @mbrett, thx for pointing that out to me, i completely forgot its over web. The client looooks and feeeels so good, i didnt even realize, and taught i was still in the widget. Which is a big PLUS, i hope WRT 1,1 is used on this project.

@alee8, your more than welcome.
