How about saving a different mp3 with the same name as the default Step Counter "sound notification" file name and renaming the original.

mbrett,
this is the solution for an advanced user like us but everydody.is not an advanced user.
in the folder "alertsounds" there 2 sound aac and 1 wav, somebody could not know how to convert a mp3 in these format and copy the files in the folder.
best regards

Sat, 2009-05-09 14:53 mbrett: This is true

This is true. It is easy for me to assume others have our capabilities, but this would help some less it capable users as you suggest. I would assume this would not be a hard functionality to incorporate.

I imagine it may be classed more as a wish than a necessity, so would be based on the Development Teams available time and budget.

Mon, 2009-05-11 11:26 navio1973: no more than half hour

I think that add the 3 fields for saving the sounds and change on the code from a fixed string into a variable, the developers of NSC need no more than half hour.

Thu, 2009-06-04 10:59 ole.kirkeby: Use your own alert sounds

In my introductory blog post to the Step Counter update, the third bullet point states

Sound notifications (in Settings, General, Sound Notification. Use your own alert sounds by replacing alertsteps.aac and alerttarget.aac in E:/StepCounter/AlertSounds)

The file names are 'hardcoded' inside the application, that is why you can't use mp3.
