Bugreport for Ovi Maps 3.0 Beta for mobile

Fri, 2009-06-12 23:11 vinayaknair: Error - Nokia n82 - Unable to Install. Component built in.

Unable to install the latest update (11th June) of Nokia Ovi maps 3.0 on Nokia n82 (Firmware v31.0.016). Its giving me the same error as prior to this release "Unable to Install. Component Built in". I had installed Nokia Maps 3.0 initially when it came and then uninstalled and installed 2.0 version back. After which I have never been able to install 3.0 version back because of the above mentioned error. I am currently running the latest version of PC suite, Maps Updater etc. Kindly correct this error before final release.

Wed, 2009-06-17 20:40 tncc01: Full reset

I assume kee means a hard reset of the phone. This can be done using *#7370#. It will wipe out all your settings and apps on the phone's memory, so you will need to backup everything with PC Suite. It should not affect anything on your memory card.
I was able to install OM 3.0 on my N82 (v31.0.016) by reflashing the firmware followed by a hard reset. I had also deleted everything off my memory card. I loaded OM 3.0 before loading anything else on the phone or card, or replacing my backup file. I can't say for sure that this will resolve your issue, but it did work for me.

Thu, 2009-06-18 08:27 emrossel: See if i get this right

First I have to do a hard reset pressing *#7370#.
Then I install OM 3.0 to my phone.
And after that I should uppgrade the phones firmware to v31.0.016?
After completed the above mentioned - then I can put back any aplications that I had on the phone prior to resetting?

Will my Simcard or my memory card be affected by the hard reset i any way?

Anyone please comfirm?

Thu, 2009-06-18 15:38 scoobyman: Hard reset on N82

@emrossel

As pointed out in answer to your other post, Nokia Maps v2.0 is pre-installed in V31.0.016 so when you hard reset, you will revert to this version, so install v3.0Beta after doing this.

Fri, 2009-06-19 09:36 kee: A soluition for "Component built in issue"

Hi all,
Thanks to emrossel who successfully managed to install Ovi Maps for mobile on his N82 following the "Component built in issue". Unfortunately it does involve a "hard reset" so please be aware that some applications/data may get lost if you do not correctly back up (please use at your own risk).

Sorry that the instructions are so long winded but we wanted to be clear on the steps.

1) Back-up your phone information using PC Suite (but exclude “User files from a memory card”)
2) Back-up your memory card but exclude the Cities folder and qf file
3) Format your memory card (usually under Tools > Memory > Format Memory card)
4) Perform a "hard reset" by typing: *#7370#
5) Update your firmware (if possible) using Software Updater - OPTIONAL
6) Once completed, run Maps once so that it will create a new qf and cities folder automatically
7) Exit the Maps application and run Maps Updater
8) Restore your phone information using PC Suite
9) Restore the files onto your memory card

Regards,

Maps Team

Will there be a new firmware release at some point that includes Maps 3.0 so that we don't have to run through this rigmarole?

Any idea when that's likely to be?

The Blog post announcing this as the "final" beta would imply that the next step is a commercial release ...

Is there a charge after OM3 gets it's final status?
In other words should I be quick and install the (working) beta version as if to spare a dime?
Thanks for replying,

I prefer installing OM3 AFTER it gets final, because I don't want to loose any personal settings. See my public correspondence with Emrossel about N82 and hardreset above.

Tue, 2009-06-30 14:15 UrsusZA: Use Ovi

I had the same problem when trying to install on my 6220 classic using PC Suite and the Map update
I recently installed the Ovi Desktop Beta App and it has an integrated Map updater which worked perfectly, upgrading my Maps from 2.0 to 3.0

Hope it helps

Sun, 2009-07-26 00:27 bumblebuzz: After a few different ways,...the following worked for me.

For those that still have issues....

I use a N95 and just spent over 10 hours on and off and many different steps to get Maps 3.0 to work and now it does.

The method is similiar to Kee's in post #11, but without restoring backup.

1. Synch contact list with Email client (ie, Outlook)
2. Back-up your memory card but exclude the Cities folder and qf file
3. Hard reset (but I used a button combination instead of #7370#, because that doesn't work on my N95
4. Update firmware (but mine was already most updated)
5. Format memory card
6. Open Maps and exit
7. Run Maps Updater (I tried using a SIS file without Maps Updater, but that file keeps running into "out of memory issue", so I suggest not to bother with that)
8. Open Maps after it's updated. Make sure the application does open and it does the removal of old maps (which was created by step 6)
9. If Maps opens but shutdown by itself, remove memory card and open maps without memory card.
Then delete the cities and qf files using a PC. Put memory card back in and reopen maps.
10. Synch with email client to get contacts back
11. Reinstall any application and settings you have previously
12. Download new maps..
13. Put memory card files back...if you want.

DO NOT USE THE BACKUP RESTORE. Maybe you can use it with contacts only, but I would not risk the time.

Good luck...

***Perhaps OVI Maps crew can look at whether it's the backup utility that's causing all the problems.
