Bugreport for Nokia Photo Browser

winzer1982 Tue, 2009-06-16 10:54

white space in pictures

Almost all of my pictures are shown with 2/3 of the pic just filled with white space and the real photo is crammed into the remaining 1/3. This is happening in both the fullscreen view and the overview.

The previous version of Photo Browser worked perfectly in this regard. The new version is much faster but unfortunately not usable with this ugly bug!

Is there anything I can do to avoid this behaviour? I uninstalled the previous version first but maybe there is something remaining I have to delete manually?

Regards,

Hi And sorry for a long

Hi
And sorry for a long response time.

We have never seen this kind of error in our own testing. Without seeing difficult to know what is going wrong. What are the phone models you are facing this error?

One guess would be that thumbnails created by NPB are corrupted. To check if this is true, here are the instructions how to check if case is because of corruption.
1. Find the image which is displayed with white space
2. Check the name of image(long press to get Menu > View details)
3. Copy corresponding image thumbnail from phone file system to your PC(you need to connect your phone in "mass memory mode" to PC). Thumbnail can be found from the same folder where original image exists under: \_PAlbTN\IEImagicTN_128x128\ and \_PAlbTN\IEImagicTN_512x512\ folders.
4. Check if thumbnail looks corrupted in similar way as in NPB in some PC image viewer application. Note, thumbnail images are saved in square shape for are reason, so don't worry if aspect ratio looks wrong.

Please let us know if this is still repeatable.

Yes, i got the white space on the thumbnail if i copy it to the pc.

My phone is a Omnia HD, so maybee it's not supposed to work on this device?

same here

There is the same white space when I open the file on the PC.

I'm using an I8510, so unfortunately it seems to be a Samsung related issue. What a pity, the previous version worked very well, it was just a bit too slow...

Debugging help attached

Hi Hokkane4 and other developers,

first many thanks for this great application !
We samsung I8910 Omnia HD users really need your help as the samsung video/photo browser totally sucks ;-)
I've got exactly the same "white photo space problem".
It worked with V9.3 and since 9.4 there is the asynchrone "white frame".
The white frame is already in the prerendered thumbnails.
I made a rar archiv for you with 2 folders :
Both contain the same photofolder with one pic and the generated thumbnails.
"24062009A1_9_3_working" was made with 9.3 and the thumbnails are rendered correctly. ( obviously ;-)
"24062009A1_9_5_notworking" contains the thumbnails from 9.5 with the white frame.
You can download the sample here :
http://www.lunex.net/temp/photobrowser_omnia.rar

First i thought the problem could be conneted with the 8mp widescreen camera of the omnia,
but the problem also concerned my background pictures which i uploaded via usb.

I hope this helps to debug the problem as im really looking foreward using the current version of
the phonebrowser instead of 9.3.

thanks very much,

Lunex

Hi, Thanks for trying NPB.

Hi,

Thanks for trying NPB. But I'm afraid we cannot provide a support for non-Nokia device. Even for Nokia devices, we are limiting the models -- nowadays focusing more on touch devices. This is due to NPB being an experiment rather than a beta for the software that is intended to be made an offering later on. Our purpose is to explore how we can create joy for photo browsing on mobile phone.

Any Chance ?

Hi Nkaneko,

isnt there any chance for you to look into this problem ?
This is one problem, that if fixed would ensure you many addition users an fans.
I would be willing to donate, say 10 USD, and perhaps others too if you could fix this in future versions.
We samsung users really need a usable photobrowser and your is not only usable, its great looking too !

Please, i beg you, continue develloping and have a look at the files attached to my former post.
I hope this will ease finding the problem.

Tell me if i can help you in any way or you need the code tested on a samsung device !

Thanks,
Lunex

hi Lunex I quickly checked

hi Lunex
I quickly checked the sample images you supplied. Looks like problem has happened already in image decoding phase of the original jpg image file. NPB is using Symbian standard jpg decoder for this operation. So my guess is that there is something wrong in Omnia image decoding sw(note that this is just speculation). Also same images works fine in Nokia devices(i did not see any Nokia phone user reporting this same error). Sorry but there is nothing we can do this for now.
