Adress search crashes on N95-8GB

Hello,

i installed the new beta over the last one, which worked without any problems. Now when i use Options/search/adress maps crashes. I can see a little house at the top of the screen for a short time and then i'm back on the home screen. Here's what i did

1. Used Mapupdater to update maps from the preivious beta
2. As search crashes, i deleted all the maps with map loader and installed fresh maps
3. still crashing so i deleted maps again and started maps without them
4. same in offline mode
5. as my firmware was 30.0.018 i updated to 31.0.015 used maploader to upgrade the maps 2.0 to the new beta, installed new maps -> still crashing

As maps is totally unusable without adress search im stuck. Does anyone have an idea? I haven't seen this kind of bug yet in the forum.

My N95-8GB is the European version, language is german, i have a driving and a traffic license for europe.

Adress search crashes N95-1 Australia

I Click address search and this crashes the Maps program, making it pretty useless. I am running latest firmware.

.. and for me :-(

Just about to leave for Avebury and discovered the latest upgrade does not allow address search on my 8G N95!

Hence not the most useful software just now...

Anyone got a work-round?

Works for me but..

Searches work for me on my N95 most of the time, just a pity it then usually crashes when asked to navigate to somewhere.
If it does manager to start navigation, it usually crashes before its got to the destination, usually as you need it most.
Still its better than the previous beta (well just) which would never navigate. I guess they've managed to sort some of the problems out, but it appears to be a long way off being stable and reliable.

@byteguy

I would like to ask you your position settings of gps data and if you use some Bluetooth accessories.
In the previous version there was a bug about the bluetooth gps settings and the phone was connected to a notebook with the bluetooth, regularly OM3 crashed when I tryed to drive.
With the new version it seems to be solved on my E66 but I do not know on the N95

No Crash but no Result in Offline Search.

Since I have most of my Addresses saved and was so glad to have Voice Guidance in Navigation back after the latest Update, I didn't noticed that this is not longer working.
When I try to search an Address, my phone doesn't crash but comes up with no result, even when the Address is on the Saved Map. When using the Search Function in online Mode, it works fine.
Also I have noticed that the Software is not longer "completing the input" as it has in the version before.
Because I have a Data flatrate I really don't care to use Maps in online mode, but to fix this bug should be Nr1 priority.

That's the way that worked for me.

1. Connect N95- 8GB to PC via USB ,Mode PC-Suite.
Start Map Loader, delete old Maps with the Program. Since Maploader doesn't show the installed Maps on the Phone, please notice the change on available Memory Space.
After that is done, close Maploader and open PC suite and File manager.
Delete the QF.file and the Folder cities. To delete the Folder will take a while. you might have to delete subfolders manually before getting rid of it finally.

Option:Sometimes when loading and deleting a lot of big files, the Memory gets fragmented like a Harddisk in your PC, resulting in slow speed, and other malfunctions.
To get rid of it, use the Windows defrag tool.
Connect the Phone via USB and select Data transfer Mode.
This way the phone is like a harddrive on your PC.
Open Microsoft Defrag and scan this Drive (Phone). If more than 10% fragments you should defrag the Memory.
Since the USB connection with the N95 is slow as Hell, it will take a couple of hours to finish the Job.
I recommend to connect the charger to the Phone and let the PC do the Job overnight.

2. Then when the Folder and the qf file are gone, disconnect Phone from PC and Start Maps on the Phone.
The Program needs some time to start up , cause this 1. Time the qf file and the Folder Cities will be created new.
Don't go online when asked by the Program.
After Startup you should have only your Position point and no Map on the screen. Perfect.
Now close Maps on the Phone, connect Phone to PC in PC-Suite mode, start Map Loader and install the Maps and Voice Files of your choice.

This worked for me. I hope it's working for you also.
Good Luck.

Defrag

@openwater: I already did the "delete qf" thing but it didn't help. After you're post i checked the phone with defrag but it told me it's not necessary to defrag. I guess the last resort would be to format the flash and try from scratch. Luckily i started to install programms always on internal memory some time ago but there are still photos and mp3s on the flash :-(

Nope

didn't change anything. Even after a format of the flash address search still crashes. I someone at nokia is still interested in getting maps working on an oldfashioned N958GB, i would be happy to assist. Send me a version with debug logging or give me tool to analyse the call stack or whatever.
I'm kind of getting desperate.

Don't worry, you're not the

Don't worry, you're not the only one fighting this bug! I was very happy with the new pricing of the European drive&walk and traffic info that I took a year subscription for both.

Only after that I found out that address searching crashes my maps and every single attempt to reinstall, downgrade and upgrade again, upgrading the N96 firmware,... nothing helps. Very frustrating to know my licenses are useless now and that I even had to get my old gps back into my car to drive to addresses...

@openwater: only badly designed filesystems fragment and make badly designed operating systems crash and run slow. Dont' understand why symbian keeps using that fat32 filesystem...

Now that this maps

Now that this maps application has even graduated I propose to keep the thread http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board/message?board.id=n... on the 'official' Nokia discussions forum as active as possible.
