lots of forums offer users the ability to add polls.
i think this would be a particular use in the beta labs, when, for example, someone suggests an idea, a poll could be added saying something like do you think this is a good idea? yes/no. then a clear view of peoples thoughts on suggestions could be built up? i imagine that everyone that reads a post, might not bother to comment but the option to click an answer might work well?

I've considered this in the past, too. And while I am a sucker for polls myself too, I'm afraid of how such polls would be used.
When used the right way, we could indeed ask for the community's opinion on a topic, which we could then use in decision making. However, users would most likely use it to back up their own suggestions, even silly ones. Imagine i.e. a poll "Should [Phone model X] be supported by [Product Y]": it will for absolute certainty get almost only 'yes' votes, since people owning that model and interested in Product Y would vote, while others wouldn't care. And then people would get mad at us for not doing anything, even though "almost 100% of the users want this supported".
I do admit, they are fun, they get people engaged in stuff, people like to click-vote instead of type, but it's again also a bit of a dangerous thing to implement.

1) Future feature suggestions (functional features, not compatability)
2) User end bug prioritisation
The ideal would be that the polls be created by yourselves, possibly based on the forums. You could even have a sticky for suggestions and bugs for people to suggest form incorporation into a monthly poll for example.
This could run alongside the present application scoring and and questionaires that you run on the site.

Yes. I think there should be a polling system so that users can pole for the suggestion they like when someone else has mentioned it. this will also reduce topic duplication. This way ideas that are most liked by users may be given more attention.
BTW users can show that they have faced a bug that is reported by a user before by voting it somehow.
