Bugreport for Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0

Profile picture Innovator Top reviewer rcadden Tue, 2009-06-23 17:18

Cannot Sync Contacts

Just installed Ovi Suite 2.0 over the previous public Ovi Suite release on Windows Vista. I'm connected to my Nokia N79 NAM (v20.175) via both Bluetooth and USB (tried separately and at the same time) and cannot synchronize contacts.

I am able to synchronize messages and photos just fine, but contacts consistently tells me it failed.

I have rebooted both the phone and the computer multiple times and am still able to reproduce the problem.

I'm having a problem as well. Here's what I did though... After the original, successful sync, I deleted all the contacts from my phone and SIM card, and I updated them all on my computer. Then when I tried syncing again to get all of the correct contact info on my phone, it gives me a "Syncing Contacts Failed" message.

* Nokia Ovi Suite beta version: v0.4.7.0
* Windows Operating system model and service pack: Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3
* Device SW version: N95 v31.0.017
* Ovi Suite language, operating system language, device language: English
* Connectivity: USB Cable
* Reproducible: Easy to repeat

Same problem here with the following test scenario:

Sync N97 A's contacts with Ovi Suite
Sync N97 B's contacts with N97 A (using MfE)
Now that A and B gave the same contact try to sync B's contacts with Ovi Suite. Operation fails.

First Syn worked just fine ( Windows 7 and Nokia E71)

But now I have same problem, all of a sudden i cant sync contacts anymore.

Messages etc just work fine... didnt try notes and task and calendar.

Happens both with USB or Bluetooth Connection.

Device Software version is the latest:

200.21.118

All synching processes do seem to take a lot of time.....

Cannot sync contacts

I have an N97 and freshly installed a copy of XP and all updates. Then a fresh install of the ovi suite. Contacts synced once, but never again. SMS messages sync fine. Photos won't sync either.

Hi all,It seems that many

Hi all,

It seems that many of you have some kind of problems with sync. We would need your help in analysing the problem. Could you send us the sync log files in the private feedback form found in the Overview section of Nokia Ovi Suite page at
http://betalabs.nokia.com/ovisuite

If the size of the dump file is too large to attach and you get an error, please give your email address in the private feedback form and answer yes to the question if you agree that Nokia can contact you for any further clarification.

This is how to get the sync log files:
1) For each phone included in sync, open file iloptcfg.cfg. The path is
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\phone_imei\Configuration\iloptcfg.cfg
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync\phone_imei\Configuration\iloptcfg.cfg
2) Edit iloptcfg.cfg:
TifLog=0 to TifLog=200
TranslatorLogVerbosity=0 to TranslatorLogVerbosity=200
3) Open file Settings.ini. The path is:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\Settings.ini
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\Settings.ini
4) Edit Settings.ini:
LevelAll=Yes and
DumpRecords=Yes.
5) Run synchronization.
6) After the synchronization, zip the contents of folder Nokia Connector and attach it to the report. The path is:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\
7) For each phone included in sync, zip the contents folder Configuration and attach it in the report. The path is:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\phone_imei\Configuration\
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync\phone_imei\Configuration\
8) Zip the contents of folder Nokia Data Store and attach it in your report. The path is:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Local Settings\Application Data\Nokia\Nokia Data Store
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\Nokia\Nokia Data Store
9) Delete folders Configuration and Nokia Connector. The paths are:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\phone_imei\Configuration\
and C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\
and In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync\phone_imei\Configuration\
and C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\
10) Run synchronization again and report if it still fails.
11) Also remember to add the details mention here in your bugreports:
http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/3208
12) Add also the link of this bugreport in the Add details field in the private feedback form.

Thanks,
Puumis

How do I open a .cfg file?

see subject

· To top · Sign in to post comments.
#9 Ambassador7 Wed, 2009-07-22 05:42

This works for me

Use notepad or wordpad to open a cfg file

Guys follow his steps and be sure to send bug reports so we can get this fixed.

If you don't have time to follow through with the report...just delete folders Configuration and Nokia Connector.

The paths are:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\\Configuration\
and C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\
and In Vista: C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync\\Configuration\
and C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\

Everytime this works for me just remove these folders before you sync your contacts and you should get it to sync properly. Everything syncs fine for me except for the groups. Perhaps if I create the groups on the phone to match the suite, they may sync as well.

Thanks for the solution...had my head spinning thinking my hundreds of contacts were lost.

Still no joy

Thanks Ambassador7, Tried your suggestion of deleting folders Configuration and Nokia Connector before syncing but it didn't make any difference.
I have also tried repairing Ovi Suite using the Add/Remove programs feature in XP.

Re: HHaapis

I can't find the file Settings.ini in

C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector. But there are other files like nokiaconnector.***, nokiaconnectorapi.***. Don't know what's wrong.

Nokia phone info:

E71 with the latest firmware (300.21.012). My PC's operating system is XP.

Step by step:

I unistalled PCsuite from the PC. Installed OVI suite. Restarted the system. Connected the phone following the wizard. Everything worked well. I got the messages (about- 50) and contact (about- 110), synced perfectly. Then used the OVI Suite to make a few changes to contacts and it could never sync anything inspite of repeated trials. It always says that the sync failed.

However, there is log file called Nokia connector log.. This is the info in it..

"ERROR: Failed for IID = {2CCC9BDD-511E-40A0-8DC7-0ECDDAED7594} with error: 80004002"

Let me know what else you need..

Thanks.

PS:

My feeling is that the ovisuite fails to make software changes to the pcsuite sync in the phone. Right now in the phone sync profile for pcsuite- the data bearer in connection is bluetooth. I used cable connection and I have no way to change this thing. But considering the fact that the sync worked the first time, i wonder if this issue is of any significance..

Updated OVI suite, synchronizing contacts still fails.

I updated to the latest ovi suite and synchronizing contacts still fails.

I removed any devices I had in my Ovi Suite.
I deleted the following files:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\IDNUMBER\Configuration\*
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\*

I changed the logging in:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\IDNUMBER\Configuration\iloptcfg.cfg
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Nokia Ovi Suite\Nokia Connector\Settings.ini

I re-added my device, and the OVI suite still fails in syncing my contacts. I've tried multiple times to no avail. I'm trying to use OVI suite to synchronize my contacts on MS Outlook.

I think I just realized...Should I just turn off the contacts sync in the Mail For Exchange client on my N97? If that's the case, the Ovi suite should query my phone's MfE client to see if Contacts are being synchronized via the MfE client. If they are, the Ovi suite should throw a warning.

Right now, it looks like the Ovi suite is broken if I want to view my contacts. But who knows, maybe that's not the expected behaviour, maybe it's supposed to duplicate my contacts?

I have to say, the N97 is a mess.

I'm sorry.

Now Pc suite fails as well

N97 RM-505 11.0.021.209.04 Sandisk 16gb

Since Ovi Suite doesn't work, I went back to the old method of updating contacts via PC suite, and now that has stopped working as well.
When I try to save an updated contact I get the message "Writing contact failed. Try to restart application" (Which I did to no avail).
So now the only way I can update contacts is manually on the handset - fiddly and tedious.

where are the staff members?

looks like everyone has this problem (this topic has got the most hits). Wonder how could folks at nokia go wrong on such a simple aspect like syncing contacts in such a major release..

It is interesting that no staff member is replying to this thread -yet..

Sync

Hi rtadavarty,

Sorry if you noticed already, if not, kindly do see the replies from Puumis and HHappis, they are staff members for this forum. They have already informed beta testers to provide the log files so that this issue can be investigated at their end. So if beta testers provide log files surely this will be investigated and it will be corrected in upcoming next beta versions of Nokia OVI Suite 2.0.

sync isssues

cricfancy,

indeed i did notice messages from both these guys. they have asked for log files but as i posted earlier, that is all i could get. my point was how can anybody use this software if it does not sync anything with the device?

or is it only me having issues with e71? i really don't think i have done anything wrong in the installation. in fact i have been using pc suite for quite a while with no problems at all.

hope nokia guys will fix this issue soon. i like the idea and interface of the ovisuite but it is simply unusable for me in the current form.

N97 calendar gone - sync issues?

_dear support,

the calendar on my phone is blank, no dates are displayed, e.g. the grid monthly grids are blank
and the sync process throws an error (cannot sync calendar).

i tried to identify how that could happen and tried several things to get the calendar
back, but nothing worked out. e.g.
- re-install
- deleting and changing the cfg files (described above)
- this and that..

_i lost the calendar after firmware and ovi-upgrade.

i am using N97, outlook 2007 as sync-master; contacts, notes etc. syncs fine,
except calendar :| ... my OS is a well patched XP.

_dear support, do you have any idea what to do next?
while i am doing a lot field work i have to rely on my
mobile calendar.

You mention a FW update

Have you seen your Calendar working OK since you did the FW update?

Do you have a copy of your calendar entries on your PC in Outlook?

What are the settings you have made for Sync?
Sync from phone to PC / PC to Phone / Both ?
What have you set as having priority?

If not one, somewhat extreme, option would be a Hard Reset (*#7370#). This will format your C: drive (phone memory) and re-install the the FW. Before you do this I would advise you to back-up anything you can off your phone. When I did this, to sort out other issues, on my N97 I also formatted my E: drive (mass memory) to ensure my phone was as clean as possible. You will loose all of your widgets, but I have created a list of where you can get them from over at http://www.N97geeks.com

Hope this helps.

_dear mbret,

thx a lot for your help; you were absolutely right. the HR solved this issue
and brought back a blank phone with calendar func. :) ...

Have you seen your Calendar working OK since you did the FW update?
> once

Do you have a copy of your calendar entries on your PC in Outlook?
>yeppp, and contact and notes are still in sync with the phone

What are the settings you have made for Sync?
Sync from phone to PC / PC to Phone / Both ?
What have you set as having priority?
> the settings in the former version of OVI (i am running 2.0 beta-smth right
now) were both/ PC (prio) - in the actual version of OVI i can't find these settings
right know, but i guess if i should define them i had used both/PC(prio) settings.

Hi njbrunnock,

If you have Ovi Contacts application installed in your phone, please try following steps and tell me if that helps in the contact sync issue:

- Delete all contents in following folder in your PC:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\phone_imei
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync\phone_imei
- Uninstall Ovi Contacts application in your phone
- Restart your phone
- Reconnect your phone with Nokia Ovi Suite
- Try to sync contacts again with Nokia Ovi Suite

Hurray!

Thanks Puumis, that worked.
Though in the IntelliSync folder there was no "phone_imei" folder.
Also, I can delete contacts on Ovi Suite then Sync and they will be gone from my phone, but to add new contacts that are already on Ovi Suite but not in the phone, I have to first press the Edit then Save buttons for the contacts on Ovi Suite before they will Sync, but that's not a problem.
Does this mean I can't use Ovi Contacts app then?
Thanks again.

phone_imei

In Puumis's steps, the phone_imei in

"- Delete all contents in following folder in your PC:
In XP: C:\Documents and Settings\your_username\Application Data\Nokia\IntelliSync\phone_imei
In Vista: C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\Intellisync\phone_imei
"
refers to a number, the imei of your phone. Delete the folder there that corresponds to your phone. This did the trick for me.

Upgraded Ovi Suite - Contacts STILL not Syncing

Just finished updating Ovi Suite from 20.0.10 to 20.0.1.35, which I expected would solve the serious problem of contacts failing to sync for many users.

What a surprise - exactly the same error messages. What are Nokia doing releasing an update which DOESN'T SOLVE this fundamental problem with the software? And why are Nokia now including Ovi Suite software CDs with their phones, instead of the reliable and competent Nokia PC Suite, when they know it doesn't work properly?

Hi Arron.fitzgerald,

As far as i know, the number next to the Inbox shows the count of the unread messages, not the count of all the messages. Even initially i had the feeling that it does not shows the total inbox messages but If you have any unread messages on your phone, connect your phone and check the same in OVI Suite, then it will show the number of unread messages and not the total number of Inbox on your phone. Please let me know if you have any other findings :O

@saylinen: I have an N85, the same device I had when you asked me last week.

I don't have Ovi Contacts installed on my phone and have no intention of doing so. Is it Nokia's official position that Ovi Suite (which has gone Alpha) only works with an unreliable beta application?

Ovi Suite 2.0 will not sync Contacts/Calendar/Notes

Ok. I'm having the same problem as everyone else. Everything was working fine in the prior version of Ovi Suite (1.3 or 1.4 whatever). Contacts/Calendar/SMS all synced fine with Outlook. Upgraded to Ovi Suite 2.0 after it "graduated" and supposedly tested and stable.

Now only messages and photos sync. Anything MS Outlook related will NOT sync including Calendar, Contacts, Notes. I get the error message

"Sync Cancelled. Could not continue syncing. Reconnect the USB cable to your device or connect via bluetooth. Then try syncing again. fffff [or other random garbage].:"

Nokia 5800 V 21.2.025 (latest FW) NAM
Windows XP

I DO NOT have OVI Contacts installed. I tried it with and without and neither option works. I've deleted all IMEI preference folder. Tried it all. This software needs to be fixed.

I can't stress enough that the prior OVI Suite was working fine. Is there a location where i can download an old version of Ovi Suite???

Also, the backup function doesn't work. It just hangs.

Seriously, between a lack of firmware updates and this buggy software, i'm now questioning my 15+ year loyalty to Nokia phones. I've never had this much trouble with an N phone in the past.

Cannot Sync Contacts on Ovi suite with N97

Hello, I use to have windows 7 RC1 had installed ovi there and worked fine with n97. Today i installed winXp fresh install, installed ovi and N97 connect with no problem. I tried to sync but there is no way to sync contacts i always get the message Sync Canselled. I rebooted, i have many many times disconnected the N97 tried diffrent usb ports but no luck. Chanched profile in N97 to pc suit instead of ovi.com that didn't help either. Is there a solution to this ??

Ovi version 2.0.1.35
N97 version 2.0.019
WindowsXP Sp3

PS. I cannot beleive that it was working with no problems in a Windows 7 realise candidate 1 and cannot work in an official product!

Another Problem - Conversation Threads

Just noticed another problem with the latest release of Ovi Suite. The conversation threads of my two most frequent contacts have merged.

This software is a complete mess. It was clearly nowhere near Alpha quality and should not have been released as such.

Is anyone from Nokia listening?

Just in case...

Just in case this works as a kind of voting, I add my vote to those who say that Nokia Ovi Suite 2.0.1.35 (the latest release as at today) would not synchronise contacts (with Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) and I have no intention of installing OVI Contacts either. Nokia people, thank you for listening and releasing a version of OVI Suite that would at least synchronise contacts and photos.

Nope- not listening

Arron
My guess that maybe there are listening, but either do not dare to answer or are not allowed to do so. There comments regarding this crappy software is limited to... What device, what OS and so.
It would be nice if some Nokia programmer grew a set of balls, and commented on the houndreds of complains the have received all over the net.
Also how the situation would be rectified.

I am pragmatic, the only reason I used Nokia so far was the great interaction with the PC and Navigation.. Well now the interaction is gone with the release of Ovi-suite.
And now that Google is releasing navigation for Android that looks like it has a tons of features. I honestly think I am a gooner from Nokia - as soon as an acceptable Andriod "Pc-suite" emerges and a good device.

I am not the only one, so Nokia - get your act togehter, and have a nice weekend. (I know you will be working here) ;-)
