Bugreport for Nokia Messaging - IM Beta

Null pointer exception opening

I am unable to run the Chat application at all. Version 5.02(9), installed on E75, v110.48.125.

On opening, error message is

"Sorry an error occured while updating resources. Please restart the application. (java.lang.NullPointerException = 2)"

Re-opening simply shows the same error message.

(As an aside - "occured" in the error message should be "occurred")

Hiya Kevin, We've seen that

Hiya Kevin,

We've seen that message when somehow both files don't get down to the device, or aren't placed in the same device directory. (For example, if you send the files via BT - open both text messages that contain the files but install from only one of them.)

We've also seen this issue when using PC Suite's install function - with this method, you should use PC Suite to move the files to the device and then execute the install on device

let us know if either of these don't solve your issue and we can do further troubleshooting

I think ive got the same problem as Kevin did.
I think Nokia should upgrade the software for better use in the future

same Issues

I have tried the solution below.

We've also seen this issue when using PC Suite's install function - with this method, you should use PC Suite to move the files to the device and then execute the install on device

but i still cannot use the application.the same error message comes out.
Sorry if i just tell the issues now because I just tried to install it again by moving the files through NOKIA PC SUITE 7.1 and then executing the installation on my Nokia E75.

Please inform me the solution soon

Thanks

looks like it's having a java bug inside the code ... Should we install some java runtime in our E75 ?

same here, then success

1) Using the JAD link from in the browser on my E71 I got the "invalid JAR file" error.
2) Clicking the JAR file link from on the device allowed the install to succeed but then it failed on starting with a null exception java error.
3) finally I downloaded both jad and jar to a pc and double clicked on the jar to install via pc suite and now it starts successfully.

E71 version does not start (edited: now starts)

I've installed the E71 version on my E71-2 (RM-357, firmware: 300.21.012 ) and when I try to start it I received an error like: "java.lang.NullPointerException: 0=2"

EDITED:with pdz post I realized I didn´t download the jad file, so I downloaded to my PC, to the same directory the jar file was, then reinstall the jar and it works ... (still don´t understand how), but now it's working.
It works over 3G and WiFi

Hey guys, There's a problem

Hey guys,

There's a problem with the OTA download file for E71 and E63 that should be fixed tomorrow. In the meantime, if you install via Bluetooth or PC Suite, the install does work. Both files must be downloaded via this method.

The only way it worked for

The only way it worked for me was to load the 2 files to my E71-1 SDHC card and install it from there. When install via OVI Suite 2 over bluetooth the "Null pointer exception" appears when opening the app.

Solution

Agree. The only way that solved my problem was to copy both files to phone's card and install the app from the phone. Cool app though, would be much better if they add voice call
