Discussion for Ovi Contacts

original_red Thu, 2009-07-02 23:51

How to make this a killer app...

Here's my 2 cents regarding features that need adding / working on...

* Support more IM protocols (Windows Live, Facebook) (most of my contacts are on facebook)
* Support Voip (skype, Windows Live)
* Support Video-voip

regarding Voip, it would be a sensible idea to have a setting where if set, voip is temporarily disabled when using 3G/GPRS connections, as a lot of operators don't allow voip with their data allowances (or use port 80 as the rest are usually blocked).

Being able to video call to Live Messenger and Facebook chat will do it for me.

Anyone else who wants to add to this list, please feel free (that is what feedback is for, isn't it?) - and admins, please feel free to make this sticky.

@ Kristian.

so who gets the say in what's added in the future? if Kristian says yes. does this mean it'll happen or do you answer to higher powers and have to follow there strict instructions as to what is added?
i'd say msn/yahoo support has to be implemented b4 VoIP?

@Kristain,

I think this would be great, though I can see that Nokia in it's development will be concerned about making a profit, but if I understand contacts correctly, it is likely to replace the Phonebook, so having multi-service IM/VOIP/Social access as a help step. I hope to see these features in the near future.

Yes, i definitely agree that

Yes, i definitely agree that the priority is the extra IM protocols/networks. Funnily enough i don't know anyone with a googlemail / OVI account -so the app has been a bit useless so far.

Also, a bug i've noticed -

Also, a bug i've noticed - there is a homescreen integration option, one problem - i'm using a 5800, which doesn't have the widget homescreen (unless a future firmware will support it), so shortcuts #5 & #6 are a bit useless (although #1-#4 do set the corresponding shortcut icon).

All in all, a great app with massive potential, but i can see that the 5800 wasn't officially planned to be supported as it seems more n97 orientated.

I agree as well; I'd really like to see other IM services, and VoIP added to Ovi Contacts. Being able to just have one app that logs into all of these, and then replaces the default contacts app, would be pretty useful.

If they put file sending and

If they put file sending and voice notes on the next version, I would be happy. About Video Vo-IP that would be stunning and cause a revolution!! maybe that way i'll bring some use to my front camera hehehe.
