Discussion for Mobile Web Server

Thu, 2009-07-23 01:01 frazered: Can't start the Server !

Hello... I am hoping someone could please help me on this...

My phone: N97 s60v5
Carrier: AT&T with unlimited data plan
Version of MWS: 1.5.1 without OpenC

ISSUE: I can't get to start the Mobile Web Server on 3G OR WLAN in Internet mode no matter what I try...
The server just says "Connecting" and times out after a while and just shows "restarting".

1. I can browse and access the internet on 3G and WiFi without any problems however MWS refuses to work.
2. I tried creating a new (different) account on the mymobile site but still no go.
3. I totally uninstalled MWS, python and all MWS related stuff, rebooted and Re-installed...Still no luck.
4. I tinkered with all possible options in the "Settings" menu...same issue persists.
5. It works perfectly when using "Local" instead of "Internet" as the "Connection Type".

I have exactly the same problem.

I wasn't even able to get the verification SMS. Were you?

My support email has been unanswered for two days so far.

Yes, even I did not get the SMS verification. On the mymobilesite account, it says "Could not send SMS...".
So I tried sending the SMS to a different number /network (T-Mobile) and I received it within seconds. Maybe it has something to do with the AT&T network?

Also, are there any people successfully running MWS on a s60v5 device?

An Interesting Update:- After about slightly less than a million hours of me trying to get the darn server started, today morning, for a brief period, I saw that the server status was "Running". I immediately ran the browser on my PC and it worked!. Unfortunately, like an idiot, I stopped the server and tried starting it again and so far it has failed to start....with the same cringe inducing loop of connect/fail/restart...
Wish I was more technical....just last week, I learnt that "Python" could refer to something other than the creature my dad and I saw in the woods once...

I wonder if it would work if you put a T-Mobile SIM card in your N97.

That sounds like a good check to do. Unfortunately, I do not have a data plan on T-Mobile.

Oddly, now it connected. I'm not sure if it will reconnect after I disconnect, though.

Sat, 2009-07-25 19:32 ARJWright: Might Be Carrier Related

If there is anyone in the US that can test this on TMobile that would be great. I have a suspiciion that its something done on the carrier side. I have been able to connect every once and a while via WiFi, but even that is not an always happening event.

Mon, 2009-07-27 04:04 ARJWright: Seems like a carrier issue

After my testing, I'm convinced now that this might be a carrier issue. I've checked the ATT terms of service and this could be considered a break of contract, hence why the connection to the MWS server-gateway is having an issue.

Unfortunately, the only real solution that I can see at this point is to create your own gateway. The instructions to do so are on the Forum Nokia website; however, its not exactly the easiest thing to do.

If this were still a supported product, I wonder what it would look like to get something like an add-on to the MWS suite that would be essentially an on-device gateway creation tool. That would have potentially assisted some folks, and pull off some of the burden of gateway support from Nokia.

Thanks ARJ for taking the time to research on this. Yes, the on-device gateway tool would be nice. I am assuming this would also not require dependency on the nokia site?

Tue, 2009-07-28 02:13 catog: Can't start the server

I've the same issue, on a N97 in Norway. It started out fine (or I have never been able to start the server on the actual device, only remote), I could start the server, using both WLAN and 3.5G, but after a while (been testing with different users and accessing the server with my laptop's browser, and editing my profile, etc) I can't start the server anymore. Connection time out. I've tried both WLAN and 3.5G. However, the server can run locally. I've rebooted the device several times, reinstalled the server, but still facing the start issue.
Any idea what this issue might be?

Tue, 2009-07-28 11:11 TILIAK: Can no more start the server

I have exactly the same problem as "catog", except that I live in Greece. I have a N97, I have been able to connect easily the first time, less easily the second, much less easily the third (yesterday) and now connection always times out. I've also done several reboots, but no result.

Thu, 2009-07-30 14:57 Toughlikeboots: How to start the Mobile Web Server

Are you encountering numerous of “connection timeout” errors when trying to start MWS?

First you need to understand how all this has been put together. So, please refer to this paper provided by some of the folks at Nokia Research Center: Providing HTTP Access to Web Servers Running on Mobile Phones

Undrestanding that this is a beta software with a limited implementation and that one of the main components is an intermediate Gateway hub, ask yourself this; is there really room enough everyone?

Well, I think not. There won't be, at least not at the same time. To learn more and how to approach this issue, please refer to the category of "ToughLikeBoots vs. Raccoon" in my blog at: My Mobile Web Site
