Discussion for Sports Tracker

Fri, 2009-08-21 22:15 varnone: A good piece of iron but no software. (e.g. Sportracker for N97)

I am wondering what is passing in the head of the product manager ofthe N97 product. The 'computer' so far it is working pretty well but there is a total lack of software (even the flagship one).

Sportracker is one of the best flagship sofware available for Nokia, you might think that this software is made available as a preinstalled application in the N97.

No hope...

The reason why I bought N97 was sportstracker but 3 months after the launch is not yet officially exist... with the zillions of Euro spend in Marketing Nokia could have funded the development team to release the N97

As the development team is silently reading please pass this memo to the N97 product manager.

He/She is has not yet understood that it is all about software coupled with good hardware that Nokia will beat Apple but this is not the right way...

No Sportstracker is a big shame (together with the lack of a excellent preinstalled email client) and if Nokia is not capable well please release the software in the open source community we will take care of it, I guess.

Regards.

Vincenzo

p.s. Into another message and another forum I will try to understand additional things about the e-mail client.

The lack of S60v5 Sports Tracker has been discussed numerous times and I have already posted the loaction for the S60v5 version of Sports Tracker v2.06, which I run on my N97. It was on the Sports Tracker at one point for the 5800 and was then removed.

See: http://conversations.nokia.com/2009/07/30/a-mixed-salad-of-nokia-thought...

"So, since you are all wondering, Nokia is not killing Sports Tracker, but giving it some wings and will discontinue the Nokia Sports Tracker beta towards the end of 2009 migrating it to Sports Tracking Technologies, a company founded by the creators of Sports Trackers (Ykä Huhtala and Jussi Kaasinen, if you care to know). Given more breathing room, the Sport Tracker guys will be able to start developing other related sports apps."

(we are in the middle of the transition)

Sun, 2009-08-23 16:10 mbrett: Thanks Tommi, but . . .

I know whats bothers me and many others about that announcement is the uncertainty of it all.

Will Nokia keep any involvement?

Will the developers become completely freelance and no longer have any links with Nokia?

Will the site and stored data be maintained or when the BETA stops will all of our workout history be lost?

Does this mean that S60v5 phones will not see a version of the mobile app reappear on the Sports Tracker site until it had transfered ownership?

Does this mean that nokia phone app development will slow due to the lesser/ended link between the app and Nokia?

This app is staple part of my and many other's routines and we have no real view of the furute of it not that we every completely do.

BTW Welcome back. Hope you had a good break.
