Suggestion for Nokia Java Runtime 2.0 for S60

Tue, 2009-09-01 16:34 speedgrapher: memory usage on installation / masking ROM jre problem

I have to admit I haven't installed this JRE in my 5800 but I was reading the description and found something that worried me a lot:

"This means that you will always get the latest version directly to your phone, using the built-in Nokia S60 Software Update functionality."

If these updates will always "mask" the jre in ROM, this means our s60v5 machines will suffer have even less memory now. I hope I am wrong, but please correct me in that case.

It depends what you mean by memory usage.

Beta package will require about 4 MB of free disk space from C-drive. And as others have already commented elsewhere, you should probably refrain from installing this beta package if you have less than 10MB free disk space on C-drive.

Once installed this new JRE will use less RAM than the original.

Oh, I mean, when installing this beta, I'll see my usable memory (in C?) is 4MB less than before updating. Ok for the beta - but does this mean in the future the jre updates will keep masking the previous one, and using additional 4MB (or more) always?

sorry if I'm missing something here :)

Fri, 2009-09-04 08:55 _kukkis_: C-drive will remain destination drive

Java Runtime updates will be installed to the C-drive in the future also.

Performance is one of the main reasons for doing that as jre would be significantly slower to run from memory card.

Security is another main issue limiting installation drive options.

Memory still is a problem in n97 especially even 10MB in C drive mean a lot to me..I have 51 MB free memory in C and when it gets to 45 MB it shows a visible slowdown..But I can install this after Firmware 2.0 and I wanna know if there will be support? because it seems that it is not been tested with Firmware v12.x.xx for n97

Newer firmware versions are also supported and tested.

I will ask that they update the web page accordingly.
