Urban and Country dog walk test 05-06/09/09
Maps function was set with A-GPS active etc.
Average download 35kB app start with periodic 4kB downloads during off road navigation. Average GPS signal 8 satellites.
During this test I had music playing through standard Nokia N97 hands free headset and received 2 phone calls.
Bugs:
System chosen route for Set Destination and Walk Home often chooses routes with roads that have no footpaths.
In Walk mode, when My Position selected, My Position update to a changed My Position is very slow and jumpy. In Trace Route My Position update is very slow and jumpy; the more complex the detail on the map the slower and more jumpy the update, but also some random wander of My Position occurs. In Walk Home mode the My Position update is very quick and I leave trailing red dots???
Walking under an underpass caused a loss of signal. This caused a rapid, random jump in My Position: voice message stated that I was going too fast and default was switching from Walk to Drive.

During this test I had music playing through standard Nokia N97 hands free headset and received 2 phone calls.
Bugs:
In Walk mode, when no road or footpath is available in map view (off road), the lock for My Position stays locked at either the last road or footpath I was on before going off road, or becomes locked into a random location within a 300 meter radius between My Position when leaving the road or footpath and my true My Position. However far one walks off road the My Position lock doesn’t change from the original My Position lock – no update. The compass button is still switchable to either map north or correct direction of travel.
If in Walk mode off road, and the My Position is locked on to a road, footpath or random position, and the Walk Home button is pressed, the correct my position is given with a straight line leading to the nearest linking road to home. If my position is than pressed either just the app or the entire system hangs.
After either app or system and app restart the correct off road My Position is given. However, when walking, this new lock my position can randomly lock onto any point from the new lock My Position to my true My Position. If the Walk Home button is pressed my true position is given as My Position. Pressing My Position will not cause a hang but neither will it update My Position to my new My Position instead going back to the original restart My Position.

Bugs:
Recalculation of new system chosen route after leaving a previous system chosen route takes a few minutes, during the time between recalculations My Position changes but the focus of the map is on the leave point of the previous system chosen route.
Compass function using 3d view locks onto My Position on the system chosen route for both direction of travel and map North. When leaving the system chosen route and a recalculation to a new system chosen route occurs the 3d view and compass remains locked onto previous system chosen route for seconds to minutes before changing to my new My Position on the new system chosen route.
Compass function on 2d view becomes confusing especially in an urban setting, map north, direction of travel and true compass bearing - they all look very similar and can have the map spinning. In green true compass bearing mode, after pressing the compass button, the map switches but the cycle doesn’t return back to true compass bearing until compass recalibration.

Bugs:
In Walk mode Trace Route various Button functions on the hands free unit can become very laggy or don’t work at all. Music player can either repeat the same track or hang.
Can’t hear what’s being said in voice navigation whilst music plays - mumbles in the background with vibration.
No Show Open Apps on primary popup menu.
close to where i live is a long footpath/cycle track, but its not featured on ovi maps? the navigate via walking adds about a mile and a half due to the route avoiding the path.
is this the correct place to report missing map data?

Bugreport Map Data.
i have a simmiler issue living in a flat about 50meters from the nearest side road. Although there are footpaths Ovi maps doesn't have them registered so gives inaccurate routing.

During this test I had an audio book playing through a standard 3.5mm jack headset.
Bugs:
Off road in walk> straight line mode, set destination> from map: destination set. The distance reference on the ribbon at the top of the map screen doesn’t compare to the spoken distance reference and the blue distance reference box on the map route line; example: 1115 yards on the ribbon whilst 1300 yards spoken and 0.7mi in the box.
Voice for a given distance seems to be randomly updated (possible at percentage of total distance), including the periodic repeating to 10 decimal places. Every 100yds would be better.
When imperial set, altitude given in yards (feet would be better).
Urban navigation in walk> streets mode, set destination> from map: destination set. Voice navigation uses reduced detail drive instructions on complex road junctions. This could lead to problems if brain set to neutral (some instructions would have me crossing multiple roads ratherbthan just one)!
The red tracking dots disappear after a few hundred yards (no crumbs to follow back).
When maps are active the sound becomes scratchy with a pulsing tone in the background
Phone bricked after trying geotagging photographs whist navigating and using music player – squealed with a bright green lined screen. Possible reason system overload. Recovery through hard reset.
[Bug] Setting indicator to time of arrival not working in walk mode
I set the indicator to show 'time of arrival' but instead 'traveling time' is shown in walk mode navigation.
Wyen I start the gps it takes around 1 minute to lock on the satellite my real position (I'm in south america and usually get 4 or 5 sattelite on open air using the a-gps).
But I usually don't wait the mobile to lock the gps signal to start my route, I set my destination and it calculates on a random or last known position but when the gps signal is locked and my real position is shown on the screen the ovi maps doesn't update the route, it still shows the last route it defined
one complain that is not a bug, how do I and thousands others complain about maps issues, Maplink (the company that provies maps in Brazil) are TERRIBLE, lots of maps wrong, streets in wrong places, maps no geo-placed (not match the real position with the streets).
I get error messages that I am moving too fast, even when walking at a slow pace. I guess that this is because of the accuracy of the GPS signal. This is on N97 with the flakey GPS receiver in a built-up area. Surely, the application can distinguish between movement and re-calculation of location due to change in accuracy?
I have a walk and drive licence, so why is Nokia stealing my processing time for this? I realised that there could be people that try to use the walk licence for driving, but please do not penalise users of the full licence, this validation should be automatically disabled.
If you want to add a routepoint, you can only from standard POI's and not choose from map address or favorites. please fix!
