Fri, 2009-09-04 09:20 josef.r: I would really suggest to

I would really suggest to add again an option "search address" with fields like Street, Number, Postal Code etc... And maybe what about virtual keyboard on the screen (n97) without double clicking to the field before...?

Fri, 2009-09-04 10:02 rdobrich: Would be nice to have wildchar in searching

If I enter street correctly, I get result just find.

But, if I enter only part of the street name, I don't get result.

Example.
Correct adress is 'Jurja Neidhardta'

If I try to enter 'Neidhardta', I don't get any result.

It would be nice if we can search 'neidh, Zagreb'
and get any adress having 'Neidh' into street name

Hei we do not need "many fields in search". One line is enough.

Sat, 2009-09-05 20:27 rmuerer: More context information

You guys need to add tons more context to the map. The most important feature if you're on the go is to find stuff... and that's not just adresses, but certain types of stores (like do-it-yourself stores), product (like grocery), types of restaurants (admitedly that works already pretty well), services (like hairdresser or notary), etc. The Map tool should be like a local Google search. All to often I still get a "nothing found" answer.

Keep up the good work! I m very excited about the next generation of Ovi Maps.

Mon, 2009-09-07 13:57 vorkiej: Some suggestions

This version is much better already. Some suggestions:
-As said before, the search has to be exactly right. You cant just type in "Zeven" instead of "Zevenbergen". No search results then.
-Maybe the search can give some suggestions list (like tomtom)
-If it's searching offline, its not easy to switch to online
-If I find the place on the map, i'd like to explore the area on Satelite view to find the exact right place or house

The History feature, must be implemented in this version.
If already implemented is not easy to find it...

Thu, 2009-09-10 19:17 meggers: what happenned to "search by address" "add to route" and history

in ovi maps version 3.0 there is an option to search by place or search by address, which seemed like a very convenient approach. it seems that search by address has been totally eliminated in this beta version. major omission in my opinion.

also, once i have found a place, there is no longer an option to "add to route". can i now only plan routes on my PC client? of so, another major omission.

one last suggestion which has already been mentioned, but i will reiterate, is the lack of search history. very important feature.

Thu, 2009-09-10 20:08 ravidavi: You can use the search field

You can use the search field to search addresses. There is no more "country/postcode/street/number" input because that was tedious and buggy, and EVERYBODY IN THE UNIVERSE said so over and over. Back then everyone complained about that method, now everyone is complaining about this method. :)

The new unified search bar is more intuitive and has far more potential. Think of how in google you can just "type anything" and it gets found. Assuming the Nokia team has the programming knowledge to implement fuzzy searching, we will all be much better off the way it is now.

Thu, 2009-09-10 23:39 jonkeys: 'Select Address From

'Select Address From Contacts' - we need this feature. This is another major omission. Please sort this. Without it, it makes using Maps a massive pain! (N97 user).

Sat, 2009-09-12 09:52 imici: Horrible search function!

The user interface, speed and usability is perfect, but the one box searching feature is horrible! It's very hard to find a place (e.g. street and number) which is more distance from me.
I have to type the whole street name in order to get the any result. The search engine in previous Maps edition (3.01 09wk34 b02) is much more effective!
This feauture is totally screwed up and cuts down the usability and user experience of this application to the minimum.

I suggest to keep the searching method from the previous release and this release may be perfect!

Imre

Mon, 2009-09-14 08:55 rodeto: adding 'Select Address From Contacts'

Please add the option 'Select Address From Contacts' back to the menu. I got all adresses within the contacts so I can plan a route to them without to have fisrt look up the address and than manually add it again.
Thanks

looks really good, much better than 3.1 - still having trouble finding content on cities that LP, Via Michelin does not offer.

Wed, 2009-09-16 08:57 suhansaha: Much better search

The new single line search bar is much intuitive than earlier solution of filling in multiple textfields.
But, the search bar could be more intuitive if it returns similar souding results when exact match is not found. And also certain roads are popular by their short names. e.g. MG Road is more common than Mahatma Gandhi Road. So, any of the above following inputs, e.g. MG Road , M.G. Road or Mahatma Gandhi Road , should give me a proper result.

But, last but not the least --- kudos for a job well done. Now ovi map is nearly as usable as google maps.

Thu, 2009-09-24 01:46 leedavies: This latest version is a

This latest version is a fantastic upgrade - great work.

I gave it a spin in Seattle today, looking for the nearest coffee shop. I searched on "tullys" and it came up with a list of several stores - perfect. Each had an icon on the map and I could scroll around.

But as soon as I click on my current location icon, all the search match location icons disappear. This is a pain as I just wanted to manually scroll around to see which store I wanted to visit. It would be nicer if the match icons stayed on screen until I either cleared the search or did another search.

Please bring back "search POI by category"!!! Quite cumbersome to use this function only when navigating...

Mon, 2009-10-19 11:35 davidmct: I want a place in M minutes or N miles...

Driving back from Spain (1000+ miles) I wanted to push the driving a little further as was making good progress. I wanted to know how much further I would be in H hrs following my current route and whether around that future location there were hotels and restaurants within a M mile/N minute radius to stop in. Also what the remaining time to final destination was if I choose to stop/detour. browsing the map around that location would enable me to make a choice and ideally I could click on a POI of interest such as a hotel and get a phoen number/weblink to check reviews or make a booking

You could extend this to ask something like "from my current location I want to drive/walk M miles/ H hours. What is interesting to see from POI cataegory P (eg monuments, restaurants, landmarks, museums etc)"

Sun, 2009-10-25 22:30 axisama: Public Transports

I advice you to add metro and train stations as POI and to add navigation via Public Transports when we are in a big town.

It's obvious we would like to know which metro or bus lines who must take instead of walking all day long :)

Wed, 2009-11-04 14:49 DaveGordon: New search not as useful as search by category

1. When looking for a compund category (e.g. pub or restaurant) it's difficult to find a search term that includes what you want but excludes irrelevant results. It's much easier to use precategorised terms.
2. When looking for a business with a common word (e.g. London) in its name, open searching returns too many irrelevant results that happen to match the word; these would be in different categories when using a search-by-category and thus not clutter up the results.
3. We already had an open search for the case that there was no relevant category, so this seems to be a pure loss with no corresponding gain :(
