Review for Ovi Maps Beta for mobile

Firstly it looks amazing

Lots of nice features

Events looks and works great.

Michelin is incredibly useful especially for someone new to the area. One issue with that - if you select e-mail option when viewing a restaurant it said no mailbox defined. I use nokiamessaging for e-mail and have 7 e-mail accounts set up in it but no option to use these (that I have found yet)

Lonely planet feature works well - really well in fact

Can't really find anything negative to say about it.

Nice work

Superb interface (one tap, easy navigation). Lonely Planet, Track Me -- excellent features. Working nicely in Seattle. Just wish I could install to Mass Memory, as these new features (Lifecasting, Ovi Maps Beta, Communities) all take precious space on my anemic N97 c: drive.

Fri, 2009-09-18 15:22 sheridan01: Search functionality

Just did a search for Thai restaurants in my local area or so I thought and it showed me restaurants in THAILAND 7898km away from my present location.

Firstly why is there not something that instructs the app not to be so rediculous. I would like to point out that I am in Helsinki and there are loads of thai restaurants here so why can it not find them?

Find something now it a little bit harder that in the previous version. It would be nice that the OM Team made a user guide for how to use the search "not improved" function at max with all tips that we do not know. I found some rules, read my comment #24 of http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/4140#comment-18337, but I have to made some test with the POI.

Mon, 2009-10-05 19:02 sheridan01: having used the beta for a while now

Having used the beta for a while I have to say how excellent it is (other than the stupid search functionality).

I am most impressed by the fact that it identifies which lane you should be in at a multilane junction. This is so helpful in areas you are not at all familiar with. The speed warning are also good if not a little annoying and their accuracy is pretty good. mostly within 100 metres of the sign.

Being able to set your home destination is useful too. And when an address is found it is pretty simple to use but please guys sort out this search function . It really is not helpful

Just updated the maps to this beta version. The menu is great and the added stuff such as Michelin and Lonely planet is great (though I wonder if it's a free service??)

My location has improved, it was showing me 10km away from where I actually was on the old maps. In this one, it is still not correct but it's bit closer now...3,5km from my actual position.

This is also one of the reason I do not want to get the premium features if it doesn't show the exact location.

Just my 2cents.
