Fri, 2009-09-04 16:53 bonjurkes: Location problem

I just installed the app to my phone, and tried to use it, there isnt any wifi connections around me so i had to use dna gprs to get information about the current weather. When i tried connect for the latest weather info, it gave the weather stats for alterstadt, germany. I am not sure why it thinks i am at germany, when i am at Pori / Finland. I checked for option to set my current city but there isnt any option like that, so i guess there is something wrong with the program...

Mon, 2009-09-14 13:15 jameswinter: unreliable location fix

Overall I like the app a lot. However, of some/many occasions, the location specified and info returned is for a slightly wrong location (Helsinki, Kaunienen or Vantaa instead of Espoo), and sometimes the location is clearly wrong based on using a previous lookup. e.g. I was in London yesterday and when I checked the weather today, it showed the location as London, even though I am in Espoo, Finland.

I'm using the version within 3.x Maps client for my N97. I've got various friends who have the same issue.

There may be two separate bugs here:
1) Location lookup uses the cached or previously used (t-1) location lookup
2) Location lookup returns erroneous result (e.g. Vantaa is NOT Espoo) - presume a tabular lookup is being used?

You are right, there was a nasty problem with the location. Please take a look at this thread:
http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/4741

The other problem with the slightly different location e.g. Kauniainen instead of Espoo is because Weather is showing the nearest weather station name instead of the current position. We are trying to figure a way around this, but with the current data set that might not be trivial.

Cheers,

Pekka
