Discussion for Sports Tracker

Follow Preplanned Route

I love the sports tracker but one thing that doesn't work very well is the accuracy of the GPS and distance. It's pretty accurate, but the GPS data zig zags along the route recording a longer distance than what has actually been done even with gps filtering on high.

I'd like to be able to input a preplanned route from the web site and my location to be set to on that route at the closest point to the GPS reading. The way car sat nav works. This would give sportstracker a helping hand creating an accurate route with no zig zagging and make distances accurate.

------

I like to able to look at sports tracker and see if I am on target to finish my run in the specified time. So I say at 1km I should be under 6 minutes, at 2km I should be under 12 minutes etc.

But unfortuntey to my dismay I found out yesterday that this reading isn't reliable. I thought I had run 10K in a personal best. But once getting home and plotting the route on mapmyrun.com I realised sports tracker had said i had run 10km when I had only ran just over 9km. Very depressing, no wonder I did such a good time!

Today when I ran the same route I realised it was pointless using nokia sports tracker to ensure i was running at the correct pace as it's not accurate enough. I still recorded the route, but it was a shame I couldn't rely on the data. I realised today that accuracy of data is actually very important. This kind of makes sportstracker useless to me, I hope you can implement something like this.

Here are my routes:

I'm using the E71 with the

I'm using the E71 with the built in GPS. I don't think there is any problem with the GPS it's as accurate as it can be at the moment. Just unfortunately the reading can be a few metres to the left or right of where you are, they are small inaccuracies but they add up and that's where the problem comes it.

That's why I think the program needs to fundamentally change how it reacts to the readings, knowing that they won't be completely accurate. As I will most likely follow the same route most times I am more than happy to provide a manual but correct route for sports tracker to follow which doesn't zig zag and give incorrect distance readings.

I'm using the E71. GPS tracking doesn't seem accurate

I just started using the Nokia Sports Tracker. It is a cool application, but the GPS seems to have some trouble, which makes me question the whole accuracy of it. The posts above confirm that the accuracy is questionable.

To check it, I ran the same route twice at a steady pace. My speed varied from 6 min/mi to 11 min/mi and my elevation varied much more than the surface I was running on. So, now I question the application's ability to accurately record my work outs. If it is recording a zig zag course as I run, then it can't be providing an accurate distance, pace, or altitude.

If it can't do those things accurately, well then, it isn't a very useful application.
