Discussion for Nokia Beta Labs

Tue, 2009-10-13 09:30 suyog: Nokia Beta labs website opens in mobile view

Hi,

This isn't major issue but I just wanted to post for awareness for other forum members.

When I open Betalabs site on my laptop , it opens in mobile format always. I have to manully change it to display in full web format. It happens when following specific conditions are met.

1) OS - Ubuntu Linux 9.04(Updated with latest patches)
2)Browser - Google Chrome Dev version 4.0.221.8
3) Internet connection via USB EVDO dongle(Huawei) with Reliance India service.

I noticed that I face same issue with Nokia Conversations site.

Please note that this isn't major issue but if someone can have a look , it will be great.

I believe this is because of the mobile view being the default. The way this works is that our system tries to figure out what device/browser you are using with the help of a 3rd party database, and if it identifies your system as a desktop device, it serves the desktop theme. If it identifies your system as a mobile device OR if it doesn't identify your system at all, it serves the mobile version.
The system is not perfect and there will always be those cases that we are not able to identify correctly. I'm not sure if we could do work-arounds for individual cases, but this would be a lot of work. A more feasible alternative is to wait that the database learns the new devices/browsers/OSs.

Sorry, I hope this doesn't bother your browsing experience too much. If we had the desktop theme as a default, that would be even more frustrating for those mobile devices not identified properly.

@Ilkka, Thanks for explaining, this is not at all big issue for me as i mentioned in my post.I just wanted to bring that to notice. I can always have simple work-arounds.

@Shoeib, No I have tried it, but everytime I close Chrome and got to Betalabs it opens in mobile version.

If you don't have such problem in other browsers like IE then the problem is with chrome's cookie settings. It should be set to accept cookies.

Cookies are on, Just I think Google Chrome in Linux is still developer release, not even beta. so may be its better to wait and see what happens once I have stable version.

Thu, 2009-10-22 20:17 suyog: Something strange with posts getting duplicated

Ilkka, I am not sure whether this is only happening with me but I am seeing my many posts getting duplicated. means when I click on my username on top and click show all posts by user.

I see multiple instances of posts - this post i am seeing 3 times, few other posts are also showing up 2 times.

Could you please check? Or should I start new bugreport? Anyways just wanted to ask you " when did you graduated Beta labs website"? I cant see it in beta or experimental?

You have 3 instances of this topic because you have posted here 3 times. It will show you the last 3 posts you have made.
It shouldn't be a problem.

Fri, 2009-10-23 07:55 Ilkka: Like sheib said

it counts all your comments. When you go to http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/user/suyog all lines referencing to the same thread means a new comment to that thread by you.

We graduated the new beta labs website January 23rd :)

Ohh, i got it now but still looks bit confusing. I guess only 1 entry should be shown as long as it is same discussion/bug report.

Something like Gmail will be nice, but If we can remove this multiple entries that is ok for me.
