Discussion: Ovi Suite 2.0 support for Nokia 6750 Mural by hewhoisdom

I have been searching for an affordable flip phone offered by AT&T that works with Ovi Suite 2.0. The Nokia 6750 Mural seems to fit the bill, but I'm not sure about when Ovi 2.0 will be GA for this phone. What is the ETA on this?

What I intend to do is to sync with MS Outlook running on a PC running Windows XP.

And I completely agree that the advanced search needs an update. And I think I recall promising something on that front a while back, sorry for not being able to deliver anything yet.

We've concentrated our efforts heavily on an internal service this fall, not being able to do much on Beta Labs yet. The last weeks of this year, we have quite a lot of things, hard requirements, to do still, so I can't promise this to fit into the schedule this year. However, I do agree this being an extremely important feature to improve. Hopefully early 2010.

I'll straight up ask teemule about adding these four things:
- feedback type
- application name
- author
What it would mean, etc, to get things rolling. Unfortunately however, as I said, we most likely won't be able to make the improvements this year...

Maybe the other option would be to add an xtra field to the advanced search along with an option to select a forum. Something I been hoping for for a long time now.

My ideals for the advanced search would be a couple more tick boxes for "Discussion" / "Review" / "Bug Report" / "New Suggestion" and pickable list of Forum Names. as suggested by Navio1973 adding an author / username input field could possibly be added here too.

What are your thoughts Ilkka?

Hi Ilkka,
I saw that few month ago you made a fine option about all post by the user.
I would like to ask you if it is possible have possibility to divide by the forum and by typologies.
For example I would like to read all post about the bugs of ovi maps for mobile written by mbrett. At the moment I see all his posts ordered by date, it is hard found them quickly because this amazing man wrote more of 1500 posts.
Or could you give me some tips to use better the search functions?

The session might get old for some odd reason.
We seem to have "inherited" some bugs from some components we're using to handle the sessions. At least for some reason the session seems to time-out and it has been difficult to fix this. Recently, a new way of handling the Nokia Account session has become available for us and once we change from the current system to the new one, we should get rid of this problem. We're expecting to have time to do this later this year.

This is kind of a "known issue", but seems to occur quite randomly.
I have tried to reproduce this previously with no success. It seems to occur randomly, sometimes. Have you been able to reproduce this?

it counts all your comments. When you go to http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/user/suyog all lines referencing to the same thread means a new comment to that thread by you.

We graduated the new beta labs website January 23rd :)

Ilkka, I am not sure whether this is only happening with me but I am seeing my many posts getting duplicated. means when I click on my username on top and click show all posts by user.

I see multiple instances of posts - this post i am seeing 3 times, few other posts are also showing up 2 times.

Could you please check? Or should I start new bugreport? Anyways just wanted to ask you " when did you graduated Beta labs website"? I cant see it in beta or experimental?

This is something which has annoyed me about Betalabs for a long time now, being the list of what handsets each app is tested/confirmed working with. Rather than seeing the entire list of handsets, most users will only have one or two specific handsets they use. Like the Ovi store, user's who've logged in should be able to select what handsets they have in their profile on Betalabs, and subsequently pages where handset compatibility is listed adjusted to display targeted information based on the profile selections. Obviously users who don't authenticate or haven't configured this information will still see the full list, and users who have should have the option to see the expanded list. Even better, would be to extend the Ovi Store-like handset selector to Betalabs to customise the applications list for non-registered users. -- Michael H Currently using an N97, S/W v12 - and its driving me around the bend.

I'm cross-posting my comments I made to an article on The Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/oct/21/nokia-n97-updates) earlier today on this very topic. I concur with the OP and some of the comments to date, Nokia need to get their act together on new handsets, otherwise the financial losses like they've experienced this quarter will just continue.

Note: I have since figured out how to force kill an app thanks to a reply on The Guardian's article. The method however goes straight to the UX/UI issues I commented on, being that how you do this isn't intuitive (see obvious) to the user.

Bobbie's article is an accurate representation of the issues with the N97, and in fact all Nokia handsets in recent history based around the Symbian OS.

I too have been a long-term user of their products (14yrs and counting), and the last really solid handset I had was an E51 purchased just over a year ago. Even then, that handset had been on the market for six months, and while it may not have had the features I wanted at the time it did what it was designed for quite well. All handsets I've had before have been mediocre affairs and always lacking.

Now to the N97, which I have owned for a month - in short, it is a nightmare of epic proportions. While it may be based on Symbian, half the features which users of N, E and 6 series handsets need and would expect are gone.

One example is that you can't force kill an application which has locked up, instead you must either buy custom software to do it or wait until it dies its own death. Previously holding down the menu key, selecting the application and pressing the C or backspace keys, or selecting close from the options menu available would allow you to get on with things.

The hardware seems woefully underpowered, and while most reviews report that the V20 firmware, which the company spokesman hinted at being released at the end of October 2009, will free up some of the main system memory and storage, it still won't go far enough in freeing up resources to improve system speed.

The user interface (UI) and user expeirence (UX) of the device of included applications leaves much to be desired, with inconsistent button icons and schemas which fail to give a clear indication of what each touch screen icon actually does. There's also inconsistent implementation of copy/paste features, with it not available in all applications.

The UI/UX of the Music Store and Ovi Stores need an overhaul, not being designed for fast loading. While these could have been designed as simple applications receiving streams of XML and rendering locally - they instead download whole web pages from their respective servers increasing data charges for users and slowing down doing something useful.

The in-built web browser needs a serious overhaul. While built on webkit and supposedly fast, it leaves much to be desired particularly when viewing pages in landscape mode.

And on the subject of landscape mode, the device is far too sensitive changing from portrait to landscape and back again on a whim - and you get stuck waiting at least 2-3 seconds while it makes up its mind to switch display orientation.

In short, Nokia's work for the next firmware release of the N97 needs to be impressive and go a very long way to fixing its problems - otherwise it'll be another nail in their coffin, and potentially have been the last ever device of theirs I own.
