Bugreport: Incoorect Language in Weather Module by dpanokia

Hi,

First of all I would like to congratulate you for this new release of OVI Maps.

When checking the weather, it seems that it cannot take into account the regional data.
Therefore on the top of the screen the place is not displayed.
I live in a suburb of Athens (Papagos (Παπάγος), Attiki, Greece)
Instead of saying "Athens now" or "Papagos now" (since it's in the greater area of Athens) it says ##### now (where # is a square block).

The same in "Currently in #####"

Comment to 'Bugreport: Please report your bugs on: Map data (coverage, inaccurate data)' by dpanokia

Hi,
I checked my home address (this is that most people do on a map) at Papagos, Attica in Greece and it's incorrect.
Since I am involved in GIS field, I reccognized the error. This error is there, in a specific set of data, since 1995. It appears that you or NAVTEQ obtained data from a Greek company on whose data, I had identified this error, since then. None of the other data providers have this error.
I believe that you should set up a service for reporting errors or changes.
Of course this is a minor error, but It's an annoying error for me.

Comment to 'Bugreport: Crash after startup' by oh8mxl

Fabio: Yes I have.

I have traced the suspected reason for the problem. It seems to appear with WLAN AP making user authentication by means of a redirected web page at first HTTP request.

Here's how to reproduce:

Platform:
Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition v31.0.101
Ovi Maps 3.03(54) (09wk35 b07)

1. Use a WLAN AP which uses web page authentication method (allows connect from all users but redirects first http request to an authentication web page generated by AP).
2. Set this AP as Priority 1 Internet connection (Settings / Connectivity / Internet / Organize) .
3. Do not login into this AP.
4. Start Ovi Maps. Do a few address searches of nearby streets. Result should be "No results found". This more or less verifies that the AP in question is used.
5. Shut down Ovi Maps.
6. Start Ovi Maps. Now all the symbols after the Walk symbol have disappeared. After some starts the application is likely to start crashing a few seconds after startup.

Unfortunately I don't have more information about the AP so it would be interesting to hear if anyone else has this problem.

Sure, it is not wise to try to use the AP without login first but it's easy to forget. So, an easy fix is to stop using such AP as soon as you find the menu to do that (Settings / Connectivity / Destinations / Options / Delete).

An interesting point is that when the search doesn't have a connection to Nokia map server, the error message is "No results found" and not "Connection to map server failed".

Comment to 'Discussion: Maps TTS?' by Norbreck21a

Hi guys, much like the original OP, my Ovi maps beta seems to work really well on my 5800 however, try as I might, I can't seem to find / activate the english TTS option.

Using OVI map loader, I put the maps for the UK and Ireland on my device along with the English Male and Female voices ( I can't see an option in the list for English Female - Street Names ?)

When I've tried to change the voices in the Ovi map application on the 5800, under the language options in the Navigation settings page, again there are only 2 English options - Male and Female - Not a TTS or With Street Names (or whatever it's called) ?

Is there another file I have to download, if so could someone point me in the right direction please ?

I heard that nokia has some kind of location sharing system, but I think that it would be better, as solstrae said, to have some kind of integration with google latitude. It's the same that happens with "contacts on OVI", or the "OVI mail account", Instead of creating a parallel service that will only work on nokia phones, it would be better to use a public service that everybody uses......... will be more profitable I guess......

Erase old maps data, version 2 maps is not compatible with version 3, i supose Ovi maps uses version 3 as well... the same thing happened to me, but Nokia Maps 3.0 wouldn't open at all!

I thing the maps are in a folder called cities... or something... search in nokia maps page, they provide the information about removing old maps data for upgrading as well...

Comment to 'Discussion: @ OM Team: About a new beta' by mbrett

Talked with a UK NCC and they agreed to pre-order the parts and call me when they arrived. Phone only had to go in for 3hrs. Now using N97 with replaced lens protector and GPS fix. Drove c.100 miles on monday and no dropout at all. Even better the GPS never dropped below 1/2 way on the indicator, often reaching full. Averaged at 3/4 full.

Well worth getting done.

Did however notice a slight lag on OVI Maps 3.03 when using the with streets version of voice navigation. Fine once I had switched back to the standard version. This was when using the latest version of the with streets voice files.

It should be because in the version 2 the main suppliers of the maps were teleatlas and Navteq.
Now it is only Navteq because the owner of Navteq is Nokia. And the owner of teleatlas should be Tomtom.
it is obvious that the two have a could have different coverage.
the maps updates sould be 2 or 3 by year. At the moment there is no way to know if in your mobile you have the last map, mbrett always requested it.

Navio
Nokia N95(01.01) V 31.0.017 RM 159
Nokia N97 V20.0.019 RM 505

Comment to 'Suggestion: Sending GPS Coordinates via simple sms for emergency reasons' by navio1973

I completely agree with you. There should be a function that shows the full address where I am, coordinates and eventually the closest crosses and POIs.
I had already asked in the previous beta.

Hi,

I did allot of driving around Ireland yesterday and found that there are literally 100km-200km of motorway (maybe more) that are not on the maps. These can be found along the dublin to cork and cork to dublin route.

The maps are nearly 2 years old now. When will something new come? My navigon device a(which needs sending back!) has map updates supposedly 4 times a year!

Suggestion: Sending GPS Coordinates via simple sms for emergency reasons by frankfelix

At the moment it is not possible to send the acual position via simple sms to other devices. This is a very usefull feature for emergency reasons.

My cellphone: Nokia Naviagor, Nokia Maps 3.0

I myself, have had an accicent in the Pyrenaen Mountains. I called for a helicopter by typing the coordinates from my Garmin into the cellphone.... It saved my life.
