Nokia City Lens beta trial for Symbian and N9 concluded
Thu, 2012-10-11 12:12With Windows Phone as our primary smartphone platform, naturally we are also focussing our augmented reality (AR) efforts on it. Hence, we have now concluded the Nokia City Lens beta trial for Symbian and the N9.
Nokia Beta Labs followers will know that City Lens has been one of our most well received new applications. People all over the world have recognised it as an exciting way to view what’s available to see and do in their immediate surroundings and reviewers have praised its ease of use.
We truly appreciate the role the Symbian/N9 trial members have played in providing feedback on City Lens on these platforms, enabling us to learn from it and improve the application. This feedback also proved to be very helpful to us when we started working on Windows Phone, the platform on which we are dedicated to creating a third ecosystem in smartphones and the one we intend to provide the best-in class location-based experiences on. With that in mind, we have decided that we can best accelerate the popularity of City Lens through a laser focus on Windows Phone.
While we have concluded the public beta trial for City Lens on Symbian/N9, users that have downloaded the beta for Symbian and N9 are very welcome to continue using the service. Please note, however, that it does not support the latest Nokia Belle refresh. We continue to forge ahead on City Lens for Windows Phone and we believe that AR will be a critical component of the mobile future as a technology that helps users get the most out of their geographical location.
We are very grateful for your feedback, suggestions and insights and thank you for using and contributing to Nokia City Lens.

RIP Symbian & Meego. Looking forward to seeing how city lens further develops on windows phone in the future.
Sucks, but what can one do?
If you're referring to the fact that Symbian and Meego are being dropped from Nokia's Beta Labs City Lens trial, my answer to your question would be: Just get rid of your Symbian or Meego phone. Most of the software manufacturers and developers are anyway not developing for Symbian anymore and are dropping their efforts on the development of updates to any Symbian app they currently have out there. Me, I am never going to buy a Nokia anymore. I bought my N8 in June 2011 just in time to realize that the money I spent on it simply went down the drain barely a year later.
So sad... in order to thank them, you could make the last version compatible with Belle Refresh or Belle FP2, even if you don't maintain it anymore :-(
It was good while I had it. Got to say I like the way it looks being fully integrated into maps on the upcoming lumias.
But wait it isnt 2016 yet , but u already screwing people over ?
to me Nokia can die ugly , you dont deserve to be alive
after symbian, Meego... If it works well on meego, that's not a news. On Belle FP2, it's just unusable, you never know if it will start or not. I would like the source code to maybe correct the problem...
The cymbian community is sad, and 808 owners cannot be satisfied of Nokia's behavior against their consumers. Not sure to buy a WP to replace my 808. I can not be sure Nokia won't do the same with WP next year.
bye
This show us how Nokia care about its consumers. Wonder how many consumers has downloaded Maps in its last version with City Lens and then after the last "Update" of the OS, it simply doesn't works anymore. So I ask you, why should I be a Nokia loyal consumer, whether Nokia don't care about me.
hehe, well screw you too! I suppose the "feedback" you got from your 10 WP customers was really helpful as they get all the fruits. I must say you continue to dig the hole deeper and deeper with every announcement. BTW I just made the decision to make one last purchase from Nokia: a 808. With or without City Lens.
Crap Nokia! WP sucks! Ok, I will buy a Jolla Phone.
My condolences for one of the greatest apps for our Symbian devices produced by Beta Labs and to another one that's going away so quietly; Nokia Reader has gone, also, without any kindness or gratitude to us, the beta testers Symbian comunity.
I can't believe they gave this app for testing and now they done't care about us. Just because they are doing there advertisement of wp with this app. This is shame ,they should at least leave it working.
Ha... once again - we were the beta testers. Just like maps and Public transportaion - we give them feedback and they update WP versions with our feedback..,
That was one of the coolest things we had. I was really waiting for the updated version...
I was a loyal Nokia fan, but this has just made me switch to something else that is not "Beta". No point getting a WP phone as it will be another Beta for whoever buys them out next.
So long peeps
wow nicest company ever!! Abandoning the consumers, my n9 is my last nokia device, ;)
#n900 #n9 #maemo #MeeGo rule!!
lumias are for Microsoft fans!!
Hi
I think that my next phone (if I can afford it) will be a Jolla phone
Really should have made one more update to make it work for FP2 before shutting down. Disappointed.
Pues fatal que sólo se centren en Windows Phone;Symbian a mejorado bastante y somos muchos los usuarios que disponemos de este sistema....por lo que veo fatal que se nos corte tanto el cable.
holy shit~
that really show what Nokia cares about their comsumer.support until 2016,what a joke.my 808 will be my last Nokia phone.not even make It FP2 compatible.next phone will be a jolla or a samsung.808 pureview.N8,N95,N86,N82 and there It ends
Dear Bata Teams,
When you decide to end the support for a product especially for N9, can you please release the code to the community who can work on it and further improve the product. Sucks that you guys dropping support. Thanks again for your fantastic work.
I'm disgusted with the way Nokia has turned there back on people like me who have invested money in buying Nokia products for decades to be dropped in favor of the worse OS WP, i will never buy a Nokia running that SHYTE WP.
Nokia have lost a long term Customer to Jolla Mobile.
pfff this is embarrasing guys. The best app that Betalabs provided to Symbian users and is shut down to dedicate more time to WP? What are we talking about here? If it wasn't for Symbian role on Betalabs would not be talking about Lumia, I was expecting some consideration and upgrade to commercial (at least) to the BEST app developed on Betalabs for a NOKIA device. I don't know what else to say, show some respect for your self too. How come that Microsoft is enforcing to abandon the best project? Not to count Wellness Diary ... I'm disgusted. bye.
PS: At least release a compatible version with Belle Refresh, I don't know what else to say. I look up to my N8 and I feel that it's worthless.
This is not respectable toward users who invested their money in last Symbian devices! I still use it in my N8 and probably will refuse the last Belle Refresh! Is Symbian is supporting till 2016 is not?
this is very aggressive way to advertise lumias with WP and push symbian users to WP! At least we need fully unlocked Lumias first like n8 or 808 with the same tech-s like it is in 808.
f...k you nokia, you are leaving symbian, then we will leave nokia, go to hell nokia
everything what is worth you are leaving
I Do not shame personally Nokia City Lens team who faced the fact of dropping QT platform or its components by another Nokia team. Is there any solution? Can we install the necessary QT components separately? Does it needs QtAppBooster.exe to get City Lens work after the Belle refresh?
Well its looks like Mr.Flop is working too hard to push WP, But this is definitely not the right way, with this speed Nokia is pushing us to throw our symbian phones before 2016,Beta labs is more or less a wp labs and from last few months none of the symbian apps were updated, I was a loyal Nokia customer but not anymore, least am expecting a working update of the app for symbian. But i promise am not coming back to Nokia......
Wow that's great. Really. First, get feedbacks from Symbian and Meego users, then develop the app for Windows Phone based on the reviews, and then you say the app isn't compatible with the newer updates (FP1/Refresh). Abandon the users who, at the first place, helped you to develop the app with their reviews? Ignore them, their interests? Huh? Well, I say, you guys deserve a 5 star rating for your "generosity". Good, keep going this way. Great, keep it up. And congratulations, you've lost yet another Symbian user... Bye...
Mr Elop dont care at all in Nokia, only that WP grow.never I buy a WP phone.Jolla here we come.
yeah, it's really clever to kick loyal buyers of the more expensive phones like N-series in the ass all the time.
We didn't get free Nokia maps on N82 or N95. Now we don't get a new cool app for C7 or N8. Really think we will buy more phones that are not supported after one or two years???
and you also forgot to mention that Live View, the p predecessor
... of Nokia City Lens, is still working great on Belle Refresh. Just google for "City Lens Belle Refresh" and you'll find it.
Btw, is somebody reading these blog comments to have a user feedback? :-/
And: the send button is positioned too close to the text input field - accidentally pressed it some minutes ago :-)
N8 Belle Refresh, не работает. качал уже все версии, при загрузке открывается камера и виснет. Все!
Как скачать???
You abandon us after all we've done, and expect us to move over to an inferioe OS just like that? No. In return, we will abandon you.
May Nokia continue to bleed money until there is none left. May this company die a gruesome and humiliating death.
Die silent and quick!
"Please note, however, that it does not support the latest Nokia Belle refresh. "
I can see Nokia RIP!
That's all? Oh my god. I regret that I have updated my E6 and 808 to "the latest Symbian OS version". Well, I'm so disappointed, developers. After Drop, City Lens, what else? Store? And Symbian, too? Well done.
Totally disapointed! These decisions lead Nokia to die!
but it is working in my c6-01 withe belle refresh
Mall of Asia Map Request.......... thanks!
Very happy nokia is paying for their wickedness.n82,n86,7210 classic, ramless and resistif n97 mini n8 and 701.i've known only nokia but this is the end.my n8 is still waiting for belle refresh,wp8 is immature, lumia 920 has no user replaceable battery,sd card etc and nokia is treating their royalist as useless scraps.i'm really sad.nokia will continue to pay for
their sin.their brainwash and impulsive exploitation is
useless to my system now
that's why I did'nt buy 808
and lumia 900.and i'm now
sure my intuition was write.i
will buy samsung gs3 this
december.i also think all i've heard about android and ios in symbian forum is lies also.
it had better work on my 603 with fp2...or else...shit happens
Disdain for customers is why Nokia falling down. Have a nice trip Nokia!
No wonder that symbian and Nokia are going by the way side... Could at least make the city lens compatible with Belle refresh.. Sick and tired of apps not working after a supposed update to make things better... Just always seem to go 2 steps forward and 3 steps backword... Not to mention that no bank, Westfield, woolworths or other business creates apps for symbian..
Da hat man ein Nokia N8 mit neuester Belle Firmware und es werden immer weniger Apps unterstützt. Für mich wird es daher kein Nokia mehr geben, denn ein Windows-phone kommt nicht in Frage. Goodbye Symbian- Hello Android
Nokia Need a Finn CEO Again, Mr. Elop Go back to Microsoft!
tanks
it is very unfair not to have a version belle refresh compatible. If we were so important for beta team they should release this version especially for those whith a 808. Nevertheless, I feel very dissapointed whith the way beta team have made use of us.
... there is nothing more to say
It is sad to see Nokia doing all this. At a token of appreciation for Beta testers of Symbian and MeeGo, they could have made app compatible with latest Belle FP2 update but no.
Nokia top management is so much worried that even after almost 2 years of announcement of death of Symbian, it still outsells heavily marketed Lumia. So I guess they are actively trying to kill apps support somehow.
Best Regards,
Suyog
I love Nokia, but this kind of notices makes me feel angry, WP is not the only OS, a lot of people likes symbian,

nokia and nokia sity lens-assholes. symbian- forever))
Symbian users helped Nokia to fine tune City Lens and now it only for WP users. If a person buys Nokia WP 7.5 today, after few months Nokia will say we will only support WP 8 now
Goodbye Nokia! No more Nokia phones for me!
it s work on belle refresh :)
It does not work on belle refresh (C7 111.040.1511). Can we at least have a working version of city lens which supports belle refresh and close this? Otherwise it's like "using" Symbian users to achieve success in WP.. :(
