I agree, that was great and useful feature.
Unfortunately, this is not the only feature stripped off in Belle :(

where is the webdav client ? Why can't i find it ?

Hello Nokia,
please give us a feedback for the removed ?! WEBDAV - Situation.
Many Thanks

Really a Nice and useful feature that must be come back!

I quite agree. I was very upset to see webdav gone. Why does a new version of the OS have to get worse? Why can't it just get better?

Quite agree as well, very frustrating.

Please can someone from Nokia replay to these posts, many thanks.

Can't believe it's gone and also without any notification. I used it all the time. Why does Nokia want us to buy other brand phones? That's the only reason I can find for this nonsense of taking out webdav. Thanks for the downgrade from Anna to Belle. Maybe at least you guys understand yourself, we customers don't. If one day Nokia wonders why smartphone sales are going down, just look here and you'll know.

Why??? The file manager is one app that does not have major UI changes for belle. it is basically the same in Anna, but poorer... Why?? Why the trouble to remove something already working?

Product team response

Although this is unrelated to any beta trial we have ongoing, I'll see what I can find out about this.

The Belle FAQ has this to say:

"Q: With Nokia Anna it was possible to map remote drives in the file manager via Options > map remote drive. After the update to Belle this option is not available anymore. How do I map remote drives with Nokia Belle?

A: Unfortunately with Nokia Belle there is no possibility anymore to map remote drives."

John - thank you, would be great to get better answer than what is said in FAQ - which is stating OBVIOUS and is NOT HELPFUL at all.

Product team response

Hi, after asking around a bit I'm afraid I don't have much more to add. The feature is not available in Belle. With an update of this magnitude some features are added, while decisions are made to remove others, for a variety of reasons. I realize that if you've been using this capability previously this isn't the nicest outcome.

It is really frustrating.

It was one of the features I used to demonstrate why I preferred Nokia over the iPhone (others being user-replacable batteries, and extensible memory with micro-SD cards).

Please NokiaBetaLabs give us an alternative app to use WabDav on Nokia Belle

Like others here, I too am disappointed to find that the useful WebDAV connectivity I used with my N8 HAS BEEN REMOVED from Belle.

Very disappointed.

Simon.

I had not used "Map Network Drive" feature, but I have an iPhone4 and an Android tablet; on both I use Dropbox (a popular file available anywhere/repository). Alhtough Dropbox has not been developed for Symbian, with the "Map Network Drive" feature there was a workaround. With Belle that's gone now.

I guess I'll go back to my iPhone 4. QuickOffice offers Dropbox integration on Symbian, but there's little to no file management capabilities other than working with MS Office compatible files.

WebDAV would offer much better file management features - bring it back.

I guess this removal was intentional. The suggested (and imposed) cloud system, will be SkyDrive (from Microsoft, Nokia's new partner). So any alternative to it will not be easy, or at least, not be provided by Nokia/Microsoft.

I can't say if it is right or wrong. Maybe SkyDrive is and will be great, and it will not be needed any other alternative, but where is our freedom to choose? Well, third parties apps I suppose.

I would also like to express my disappointment about the removal of the WebDAV feature and enqueue in the list of WebDAV promoters. Even with MS as "new" Nokia partner, I don't see a reasonable explanation why to remove the WebDAV client capability that was in there before, means : No technical reason. There are other WebDAV servers that I would like to connect to, it doesn't necessarily have to be DropBox. Therefore I agree with hanucito, where is the freedom to choose ? There are so many reasons not to use an IPhone, but why is it necessary that Nokia makes it even harder for us fans to stay with Nokia. If we lose everything that we could argue against Android and IPhone's and show that on the Nokia platform there are superior apps and not just "toys" or gimmick apps... why should we stay and argue for Nokia if Nokia hurts itself and us ?

Wolf

Picsel Smart Office 1.8 offers Dropbox and GoogleDocs functionality.
However, no Box.com so far.

I find this page (again) after search against an use full webdav client. I also agree, that is a mandatory feature - if the System is not iOS or Androad with millions on APPs. So I will use it do sync my data with the 1&1 online memory.

Hey Panics (comment #22) that was good hint, I tried it and it's working well, thank you for sharing this! Now we Symbian Belle users are back in WebDAV business. The application is absolutely worth the ~3 Euros.
