Nokia/SYmbian^3 in particular really need a proper Ereader, I've searched high and low for something to work with my N8 (mobipocket, Foliant, ZXReader, Ereader..... and many more) but hardly any work like the should and what may work is a lame excuse for an Ereader. I know many people who asked me whether or not they should get the N8 and my only response was that its great except for lacking an Ereader. I used to use Mobipocket on my 5800XM and true as difficult as it was to use (only navigate with volume rocker) it still worked, But sadly its incompatible with Symbian ^3, and according to their website they have no plans to make it available.
So basically all I'm requesting/Suggesting is a Ereader with a pretty UI, simple functions (Library/Dictionary), no need for it to be closed source for only specific books bought from amazon or kindle or like that. Just something with a reasonable anount of compatible EBook formats: Epub, PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, and for good measure PRC.
you see IOS has got Ibooks, Android has got Google Reader, Kindle and many other 3rd party software, I really can't see how Nokia is going to compete with them (especially considering the new "Smart"phone rage) without a proper Ereader?
Hoping someone with a proper solution will see this ;)
Cheers

I think you're aware of this already, but for others reading the thread...
Please keep in mind that we are not actively looking for new application ideas through Nokia Beta Labs nor are we ready to act on suggestions submitted to us.
Nokia Beta Labs is optimized for facilitating trials of existing products, not for implementing suggestions for new products.
Nevertheless, perhaps another community member or Nokia team will have a potential solution to suggest to you. No guarantees though.

Yes i do realize that unfortunate matter but as I previously listed above you told people to send App ideas Symbian Ideas which is now closed :(
but yeah hopefully someone will get on that because serious issue...
is there any chance that an Ereader would be part of the "Major Upcoming" symbian^3 update or do these updates not include applications?

@markow76: Your post makes no sense. Could you direct us to some other Nokia or Symbian web site where we can submit suggestions? Or are you saying that Nokia is not interested in what their customers want? Who decides what new features will be implemented? How do you think Nokia will be able to meet the expectations of its customers if you don't know what those expectations are?
It's also rude to tell us, your customers, that you don't care what we think. It's like you are saying, "Just keep buying the phones we make and don't bother us with your suggestions and bug reports. Pay up and shut up!". How do you think Nokia can be successful with that attitude?
Hi, sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
We'll look into whether Symbian Ideas will continue in some form now that the Symbian Foundation is undergoing transition, and we'll update our About page if there is a more suitable place to make these kinds of suggestions.
Secondly, I've passed along this app suggestion to some of my colleagues.

I second this requirement. Nokia desperately needs an ebook reader app like iBooks or Kindle, or even kobo. One of the reasons why I haven't yet taken up the Symbian3 platform. I currently carry around two devices, my n97 mini AND an ipod touch. Nokia could learn a thing or two about aesthetics from Apple. It wouldn't be a bad thing.
And if this is not an appropriate place to make a suggestion, you could point me to one which is.
How and when are we getting a Kindle program for the N8 ?
Would love that as well as a few others. I have been inquiring about other popular apps available to both android and Apple , but the replies I received is that no one with Nokia's had written to them before.
All of the apps mentioned are developed by various 3rd Party developers. Please contact the related support channels for the individual apps to request a version compatible for your device.
Kindle app – contact Amazon at www.amazon.com
Pandora app – contact Pandora at www.pandora.com
Canon Camera remote control app – contact www.ononesoftware.com
I Figure if enough Nokia users out there can begin to write in to these companies we would get some awesome results.
I dont want the generic versions or the "similar to Pandora " of pandora , I want Pandora.
Am I sounding like any of my fellow Nokia users out there?
Lets see if we can get these and other apps for our N8's!!
If Nokia do not produce an ereader, and pretty soon, it will clearly demonstrate to all us loyal Nokia users of many years that they have given up the battle for the mobile phone market, and we should be concentrating all our research efforts, as users, into which competitive product we will buy when we come to replace our partially functioning Nokia device. Not just ereaders, but no Audible app, either. For literate people Nokia is now becoming a no-no.
@escalantej64: Great idea. I have written to both Amazon and barnesandnoble.com, requesting an ereader application for Symbian^3.
I really need an ebook app for my n8. i've seen the aldiko and iphone reader's and they're simply amazing.
The n8 really needs something like that

To the nokia developers greetings :D
I wanna suggest if it will be possible to develop a ebook reader apps, we need it(S50 series or below) berry(very)bad XD.... and also for free
thanks you :X
I just found the best epub-reader so far - It supports all kinds of codes including the spanish éá etc. as well as the german äöü... and many more
It is called albite reader and is available at
http://albite.vlexofree.com/reader
The touch version Albite 2.2 HD works perfectly good on both my N8-00 and my E7-00 devices.
You can even dim the lights at night and have a black background and choose different colors for the representation of letters (bright and dim schemes) - in this mode it uses only as much energy as the screensaver clock.
I don't quite understand why it is not distributed over the OVI store.
Anyway - I have so many books on my phone now - with me - all the time - it is just great.
Check it out for yourself

a great e book reader .easy and clesr
@microfly
Thanks for hint. Just tried it with a simple text file I had present, and yes it works surprisingly well. It looks like this is thought through, and have a lot of different options, that all seems to work.
INCLUDING handling of different encodings.
A little more user-friendliness could be good here though. Only the technical name is mentioned, And I guess most end-users would not know what encoding to select. The auto-mode doesn't recognise a simple text decodable by Iso8859-1 / Win1252 in Danish.
But yes I too would recommend that for OviStore.
Best Regards
Eske Rahn
strongly agrees...
i posted such suggestion/feedback at different nokia and symbian forums year ago, got thanks nevertheless.
i suggest don't forget .chm support for symbian 3. no reader for that till to date.
