Calibration challenge

2012-05-09 @ 16:02 by ank2210
Hi Calibration was painful, it stalled twice on two seperate Lumia 800s. In the end it only activated when I shook the device and apparantly this was what was needed though not instructed. I had to recalibrate again though as the direction was 100% out on one of the devices.

I agree with this, I can't seem to get my Lumia 900 callibrated. I move the phone in small and large figure eights, with no success. I've even tried shaking it with no success.

Same with me. Not getting anywhere with calibration. It's not clear what figure 8's one should make, either. Horizontal, vertical, or just what?

Calibration not working ,those designing it address otherwise its another useless app

Hello all,

Thank you for trying City Lens and the feedback. Sorry for the trouble with compass calibration.

Compass will not be calibrated if there are any magnetic interference s nearby (could be caused by other electronic devices around) so if compass does not calibrate, try to move to a different place and try.

There is no specific way to calibrate the compass, you can try shaking the phone in all direction in figure 8 both vertically and horizontally until you feel the vibrate which is an indication that the device has achieved the calibration.

Device will alert to rotate the device in figure 8 when calibration falls below the required levels.

Try this and report if you consistently see this issue.

Best Regards,
Ashok Ravula

How do I re calibrate? As its not showing correct direction.

The calibration finally worked.

Calibration finally worked for me also.

Product team response

Hi khurram,

Thanks for trying Nokia City Lens and providing feedback. Sorry for the trouble with compass calibration.

As my colleague Ashok has shared, and many others are discovering, calibration sometimes takes a few tries, perhaps in different locations, to set properly.

If calibration is required, the screen will indicate so, w/instructions to move device in Figure 8 motion until it vibrates.

to explain potential causes a bit further, [from previous post]...

Compass will not be calibrated if there are any magnetic interference s nearby (could be caused by other electronic devices around) so if compass does not calibrate, try to move to a different place and try.

Pls try this and report if you consistently continue to encounter this issue.

With Best Regards,
Raj
