yes it would be great if it is overclocked

yes it would be great and we all c7 users will be really grateful to Nokia if they overclock the processor to 1Gg with Belle update.. Its an appeal from all C7 users...

desperately looking for this overclock. Please, people at Nokia, decide to do this. It is very much possible, since the new belles use the same processor clocked at 1ghz And the actual processor itself is underclocked from 800mhz. So, once again, PLEASE.

pls Nokia do it for us . We the loyal fans of Nokia once again thank u for superb Anna update . Then pls make us together with new belle devices by upgrade our processor . Symbian the real rock start now . .

please Nokia if you overclock the cpu with belle updates the nokia phones will be THE BEST smartphones ever, Nokia N8 with a more faster CPU could it be the greatest phone ever!

completely agree and request for it. I want my N8 to be the best.

That would be gr8!!

That should be perfect. Atleast it should be overclocked to 800Mhz.

So How about granting our wish, Nokia? The n8s and c7s of this world have the potential to compete with the best even today. Now it's only up to you to unlock it.

Why not overclocking Nokia E7 also? Or why not overlocking all these symbian ^3 and Anna devices on the market?

After doing this, Nokia symbian phones would rock so hard.

Please remember: The selected frequencies are not selected to annoy the users. It's because they have found that the phone would not function stable for a long time with normal cooling running faster.

It's like your bicycle. You MIGHT be able to run down a very long and steep hill at 200Km/h but I would definitely not recommend it...

@above - anyone can overclock the processor. Nokia's job is to overclock it with a decent stability in performance, looking into the overheating and battery life. Belle would function much better with the overclocked processor, and you know it. The 701 also runs on a 1ghz arm11. Give us that on the original symbian 3 army. You know it's very much possible. And you know that doing that will improve the market value of these phones considerably, especially as most reviewing sites out there make fun of the processor clock on s3 devices. Prove them wrong, make us customers happy. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

Overclock it, please.

It would be nice to see a Nokia response, to maybe let us know that you're actually working on the thing!

Yes PLEASE PLEASE OVERCLOCK THE CPU NOKIA! IT WOULD MAKE OUR WORK WITH THE N8 MORE PRODUCTIVE AND MEANINGFUL.

Nokia, please response to us!!!!

we all love nokia, please you overclock the processor by updating BELLE or WP 7.5, let us dream.

i dont think the nokia c7 cant be overclocked to 1ghz.... Only to about 770mhz... Unfortunately :( ... But OS updates for symbian can be optimised to consume less memory and processing power hopefully.... Fingers crossed..

I agree with all C7 user , overclocking to 750 or 800 MHz with Belle update , would give us first class phone !

i dont think nokia is gonna do this..........
bt betalabs may release a beta version to overclock the processor....which users interested can install and giv it a try.....may b they can compromise on the slightly reduced battery life...

I Request The NOKIA AUTHORITIES TO PLEASE REPLY TO OUR COMMENTS. I OWN A NOKIA C7 AND I'M LOVING IT. IT'LL EASILY BEAT ANDROID IF THE SYSTEM BECOMES FAST. 1GHZ PROCESSOR WITH NFC AND BELLE CAN EASILY DEFEAT ALL THE OTHER OPERATING SYSTEMS. THE NEW WINDOWS PHONE OS WONT WORK AS THE OS IS FALLING. IT'LL BETTER IF YOU GUYS PLEASE COME BACK TO SYMBIAN AND OVERCLOCK THE PROCESSOR TO 1GHZ. IT WILL SURELY GIVE YOU BETTER RESULTS. THE SHARE MARKETS WILL SURELY RISE.

As long as we're asking, why not 2GHz?

Yeah, we could have it kill the battery in like 5 minutes. That would be cool!

It would be cool to have an ear warmer on cold nights. It might even catch on fire too! Cool!

It's almost like nobody knows there are trade-offs to overclocking. Maybe they do, but they'll be the first to complain when it starts crashing.

So, when it breaks, who is going to replace it? With what? They won't be making this phone for much longer.

Oh yeah, and demanding that Nokia respond is very funny. Thanks for the comic relief.

Why in the world do you need a faster CPU? To run 50 different programs at the same time? Close a couple programs you have running in the background and it will be like you overclocked it.

Nokia, while you're at it, why not add a software ram doubler?...or tripler?

The N8 is already the best piece of hardware out there. They just tripped up a little on the development of software. The only problems I have with this phone is that some of the programs that I had with the N95 previously (that are on some competitor platforms) aren't available on my N8. It could easily run the programs, but nobody is making compatible versions. But that is a business decision from the 3rd party/companies that makes most of the programs I'm talking about.

It will be interesting to see which defensive posters reply and what insane/illogical reason they will have for wanting this feature.

@davidstoll
How nice to see a sensible posting in this thread. I hoped to 'kill' it a dozen postings earlier, but that didn't work. Let's hope yours are more successful.

@EskeRahn
Yeah, people are used to overclocking PC's, which in some cases are underclocked so it would be easy to get high levels of overclocking. It's fun, I get it....but there are so many other cooling options with PC's (like you said). Someone could mod one and put a fan on it or something I guess. :/ Would a phone even have a bios-type-setting that would detect the heat and shut itself off to be safe? I kind of doubt it.

Hey, this type of overclocking might be available in the future with future handsets...who knows.

Hi people!
I just saw some videos of Nokia N8 1GHZ on the most popular video sharing with Symbian Belle and I was amazed!
Just like Apple like to do when they have a problem with their device - they like to sell accessories that solve the problem!
Remember the old models of iPhone did not have Memory stick support - so they built them into cases! Then they had the antenna issue - they released a case that solved the problem.
Why Nokia not to release a case solving SOMEHOW (I'm not professional - I just gave the idea) the cooling problem?
Please take my suggestion into consideration.
:)

What about some instant acceleration tool? I agree, that current os is built like that for a reason. However, it could be more adaptive. For example, give a limit for time of the overclock, which applies when phone needs a boost. Really, n8 could do a bit better with an overclocked processor sometimes, however, as eskerahn and davidstoll already mentioned, don't push it, coz' you may run into bugs and WILL run into shorter battery life.
@davidstoll Way to talk man... Effective one though.

thats all brings excitement but where is this Belle Update

@davidstoll... i'm using n8 with symbian Belle.... It can't run a single application when you're listening music via fm transmitter or even when connected via Bluetooth handsfree... Just the music player and your phone's like stuck!! Nothing else.... Nokia improved the ram consumption (you have 100mb+ free ram all the time, no matter how many apps you run) but on the other hand cpu is way too slow!!

I'm not asking to increase clock speed to 1Ghz... how about increasing just 100 mhz instead of 320?????

The Nokia 701 run at 1 GHz , and it run on Belle , and we must wait February just for one update ...!

The Nokia 701 has 1Ghz processor and the N8 has only 680Mhz. Over clokking it to 1Ghz would over heat the phone and probly brake it or the battery would dry out in hours. I have symbian belle on my N8 and it can easily survive 18h in normal use but gaming wep etc makes the battery last 5-10h

@Mikko.Tenhunen but u cant run any other application like downloading anything or listening music over bluetooth headphones or fm transmitter with hd games or even simple games like angry birds!!!

@ibad_s786:

I can't believe I am actually responding. This is one of the most idiotic messages (and threads) I've ever seen. I feel I need to, but I know I might as well tell the wall this same information. I know you won't accept this.

YOUR phone has an issue. I can do all that you are doing and my phone runs just fine.

You (and others) act as if the phone's speed has decreased (you will deny it, but this is the what you are suggesting). It's the same speed as when you bought it. If 680MHz it was too slow then...why did you keep it? If it has gotten slow over time, it's not because the CPU is too slow. You have either installed something strange or more simply...YOUR phone has a problem.

I let a 2 year old play with my phone and he opens so many programs, it takes forever to close them all...but the phone runs fine for the most part even with all that crap running. Try closing some of the extra programs. If there isn't anything else running, then YOUR phone is broken.

Also, when you hack your phone and run unauthorized firmware, you have to deal with the negatives. Your complaint is like saying "my car has an acceleration problem, therefore, the engine is not powerful enough....nevermind I'm not a mechanic and made some custom tweaks to the engine". Don't get me wrong, I get "hacking" stuff, but you have to understand the consequences and the fact that you don't get support from the manufacturer. This point is important, but I'm sure you don't get it. If you "root" or "jailbreak" or use unauthorized firmware and "brick" your phone, you can't expect to argue that the phone is defective...but YOU probably would.

I had issues with my N8 early on. One of the problems is that it was running slow (but there were other issues). I got it replaced and it has worked fine ever since.

There isn't one app I've ever installed that doesn't run perfectly fine on MY N8 (i.e. one that isn't broken/hacked).

If you can't run Angry Birds....DUDE, SERIOUSLY, YOUR PHONE IS BROKEN!

Whenever you respond to this, just remember me saying "YOUR phone is broken" when you hit the "post comment" button.

YOUR phone is not functioning properly....for whatever reason.

YOUR phone.

hahahahahahaaa u seriously need to visit a psychiatrist=p

Whatever it takes to get through to you.

@ibad_s786: This is a warning to you. Insults will not be tolerated on this site.

People like davidstoll and Mikko.Tenhunen are not trying to be asses or anything - they're trying to help. If you disagree, then do that in a non-malicious way.

ibad s786. I can listen to music whit bluetooth headset whit N8 belle. Browser wep, listen music whilie playing Anrgy birds but whit small lag. Multitask whit 6 homescreen. Only problem belle has is older apps that run older Qt versio. Hopely every one would change to newer Qt and stops buting out older Qt that works whell on very low Cpu Symbian phones like the 40th so on. Skype and fringe and many other apps has compitable issues since Belle has been fixed from the start. There are some issues that can be fixed. Hopely Symbian doesnt dye on Cindy or the D(donna?) versio. Symbian next step is using more cpu power for getting better looking apps that iphone and Android has now.

good for you!!

I'm supporting this, you can tell whatever you want, its time to have more Performance for Symbian. There are more efficient hardware. I don't expect a Hexa-Core but atleast an ability to Overclock OUR Phones, since we Modders dont give a [insert curse] about the Warranty and we know that we could break our Phones. But since Nokia is not able to test their own Phones for Long-Term Performance, we Modders could do and even Risk our Money.

Nokia CAN NOT run more away from any Developer for S60 that EVER existed.
This is getting more worse than the fragmented Market Share of Androids...

THANK You Nokia for scaring away almost all of your Golden Developers and Supporters by crippled Hard and/or Software

MORE Performance = More Abilities = More Developers

It's not the CPU Consuming ALL the Power, its the Screen.
And guess what, the CPU's are getting efficient!
Stop dreaming in your Research Center and DO SOMETHING

Just release the Source Code or something Equal we could start with.
I mean c'mon, you don't have to worry about any Security Concerns anymore, well, since you don't have left any Developer that could do anything with it...
(Did Microsoft pay you to keep the Source, so they can add their US Spies?)

Sincerely, the Modders

Its not that simple. Symbian 3 works on that same code execpt whit updated coding. Viruses and mallware could be created in the older and maybe newer symbian requiring to use anti-virus tools like f-secure and norton. Also Nokia would loose money because all premium apps could be signed whit that coding tool. This would make that you can download more easier some apps. Also the text message viruses could become the newer issue once againg.

Overclock it. Please!

+1 need oc app like android mobiles got.

@ilkkapeltola,

You should seriously consider closing this ridiculous thread. I think it only hurts Nokia because of the lack of understanding by those that are asking for this functionality.

I would suggest a freeze on this thread.

Yeah exactly!! Just like Nokia is shutting down Symbian!!!
Nokia would be history after shutting Symbian down....

Product team response

@davidstoll is right. This thread isn't going anywhere. Belle is out - it is what it is.

Sorry, but I'm closing this thread.

This trial has ended!
