I do not get this error on Map Loader either from the Map Loader icon or from the Drive > Settings > Extras menu. Using N8 14.002 with Maps 3.08.
I get the same error as described by haiduong2511 .

I get error : Map Loader startup error (-1, 1701).
This is when i try to open the Map Loader.
In the previous versions of the maps that i had (beta 3.07), the maps updater used to fail always.
Fed up!! Pl guide me...

Update didnt work on the last version and its still broken on this beta one. nothing new here except for the error now showing instead of just doing nothing when clicking the Update icon via Maps menu.

I also have this problem..
Maps load error.. It gets stuck(the map app gets stuck and other map apps won't load at this time) and has to restart to get it going..

One question if the map loading worked before upgrading to SR8:
Could you describe exactly what steps you made? E.g. deleted something, performed backup/restore for example.
Yes map loading was fine then and i didn't have any trouble as others said for the previous version. But in this version i got it..
I installed a lot of apps and uninstalled some too. If u want i will get the installation log.
I got the error only twice, nowadays its not happening.. i think it had problem with some app i installed in between. I will try to figure it out..
I've updated OviMaps 3.07 to Nokia Maps 3.08 .
- Downloaded sis file to desktop pc
- Connected N8 and copied sis file to memory card on N8
- Double clicked sis file on N8
- Installation OK - Maps application doesn't work

Some of you have already said here that with previous beta 3.07 it did not work neither (and in one case it worked).
Is there any of you who have not used 3.07 before and installed 3.08 on top of 3.06? Also was Map Loader used then with the previous version?

I installed over 3.06 and already had this problem on 3.06, an error didn't came up but the map updater could never launch.

Could any of you, please, uninstall ODML Commons Repository and reinstall Maps 3.08 again.
Steps:
1. Menu -> Settings -> Application Manager -> Installed Apps.
2. Long press on ODML Commons Repository and select Uninstall
3. Install Maps 3.08 Beta again
4. Start Maps after installation
5. Start Map Loader

Just upgraded my phone to Anna (022.014) and uninstalled Maps before as described above .
Reinstallation of Maps 3.08 after firmware upgrade successfully but
same error "Map Loader - Startfehler (-1, 1701)" .

Solved this by downloading the maps 3.08.sis file into my computer first, then connected my phone and saved it on my memory card. Then installed it into on E: from there. No more map loader error. Hope it works for you, N8 PR1.2

The securest way to solve the map loader problem seems to be a hardreset (*#7370#) . It was a lot of work to reinstall and customize the software but the map loader problem disappeared .

on my n8 , with symbian anna fw already. hope this will be resolved sooner. thanks and more power nokia!
That is the only problem with this new release of maps (3.08). If you find a solution, this will become the best maps program ever.

Works ok now, after I had a new motherboard fitted to my c6-01.
It came with PR1.2. I upgraded to Anna, installed 3.08 Maps, ran up once and then installed maps via Ovi Suite.
Now when I use the Map Loader on the phone within Maps I get no error and it shows the currently installed maps ok.

I got my C6-01 from Nokia Flagship store here in Mexico. The Nokia guy realized that the handset he was trying to sell me, has a kind of malfunction (a software problem he explained to me). So he put it back in the box, pick another C6-01 and everything seems to be alright until now that map loader is failing. Do you think is there any problem with the hardware? Does anybody at Nokia Knows?

The motherboard was not changed because of the Map loader issue.
My phone would not turn on and was repaired under warranty, with a new mainboard.
I suspect it was because of a clean start that the Map Loader began to work, as I reloaded everything from scratch.

I don't dare to scratch everything on the device just to fix the maploader function only, while still is possible to load maps into my C6-01 via PC/OVI, so I'll be waiting for the Nokia Labs Team to work it out the real issue.

I've read your post on Aug. 26th about the hard reset, but don't want to afford the challenge of customize the whole thing again. I rather live with that bug and leave the hard work to Nokia Labs Team that I'm sure, sooner or later will find a patch to fix it (I hope sooner).

We found the cause - if you have done a back up using Ovi Suite when having Maps 3.06 11wk07 (comes with PR1.2 firmware) and then restore this backup, one file gets corrupted that Map Loader tries to read when starting up.
Unfortunately there is no access for you to remove this file, but we have done needed changes in our next release, which will make sure that the corrupted file will get removed and replaced.
Also team responsible for backup and restore has been contacted for making a fix.
If, for some reason you need to restore this back up, then try to avoid restoring the settings and applications. When restoring messages or contacts, you'll be fine.
Even when installing our next release, and you restore the backup, problem will come back.
Apologies for that error. Big thanks for helping to solve this.
