No nearby places in rural area

2012-02-10 @ 20:10 by rafe
In rural areas you seem to quite often get a situation where there are no nearby places listed in the widget.

Its not really a problem as such, but it would be nice if the distance limit (I'm assuming there is one) could be lifted in these circumstances - i.e. display the ten nearest places?

Hi Rafe,

Thanks for the suggestion! The widget is designed for an urban use case. We did consider expanding the range but in the end decided against it as the results are quite unpredictable. The widget is about "Places nearby" so we really wanted to stick with the nearby bit.

Where did you try the widget? I would like to double check what our coverage is in these areas just to make sure our servers aren't being picky.

Thanks

Yeah that's fair enough and it make sense.

I tried it here, but there are quite a few other places where this applies:

I see. Yeah, I'm afraid we don't have the necessary place coverage for these kinds of areas. I'd given it a shot in Rotherham near Sheffield and it was doing alright depending on where I was - but the widget is indeed for the urbanites among us.

I would love a dedicated pub radar though - always have an arrow to the nearest pub with walking minutes on your homescreen ;)
