And as Maemo6x will continue to have somewhat of a life in the low-end via Meltemi.*
Please can you begin actively porting many more Symbian-only apps to Maemo6x?
This one included!!!
Naturally there's some elements of this suite that won't work in Maemo6x.
They'd have to be redesigned to take advantage of the feed home-screen instead etc.
There's still so few Maemo6x betalabs apps compared to Symbian.
And the latter's shelf-life is now pretty much set-in-stone.
Thank-you!
*modified Maemo6x + Qt5 + SwipeUX is rumored to replace S40.

He's saying that elements of this suite (namely NPT) will "never" come to Maemo6x.
How can he know that for sure so early & if true, why are we being shafted?
Is the MirrorLink app the next thing to be pulled from the N9, & shifted to Lumia/Belle only?
Last year "many" asked "many" times, & we were assured that it's coming to the N9.
Hi guys,
I really cannot comment too much on rumors. I am always straight with you on the forum and tell you what information I can, but I absolutely cannot tell you what will or will not be released in the future. I'm not a fortune teller.
One never knows what kinds of catastrophes can befall a software project. I don't say that something is going to come or is going to happen unless the thing is pretty much already out the door. Even a planned release can be cancelled. Alternately, things can sometimes happen to revive projects that everyone thought would never live on. This is just how it is in software.
@Tracy,
We're not asking you to predict the future...
What we need to know, is that this is "genuinely" being considered "right now".
And if it's rejected, then we at least deserve a robust/detailed explanation.
Anyway we had a response from the harmattan devs in the tracker
https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=908#c7
Can you please confirm that developing a similar suite is being "considered"?
Given the rabid favoritism that now exist internally, I'm quite sure this suggestion will be rejected.
But it's better to "throw your hat into the ring", than to just stand there.
What I am concerned about....
Is what seems to be a systematic dismantling of projects earmarked for Maemo6x.
Instead, they all seem to be shifting to Lumia and Belle+ "only".
Last year many things were promised for Maemo6x, but many are being dropped, one-by-one.
This creates massive resentment....
Thanks for your feed-back thus far!
Guys, I don't know anything. I will not feed the rumor mill with speculation. Sorry. You can be angry at me, but I simply don't have the answers you want.
I don't know who promised what for Maemo, but this resentment you feel is the reason a person should never make promises in software. I simply cannot tell you what will come next. No one honestly can.
"Can you please confirm that developing a similar suite is being "considered"?"
No, I cannot.
Did I understand this time?
And just to be clear, I cannot confirm it and I cannot deny it. I do not know. I do not know who knows.
Lots of things get "considered" all the time. If the Maemo team has made a decision one way or another, it us up to them to announce it or not.
I do understand your frustration. Please understand that I personally cannot give you this information.
What so you're not even part of the team, nor have any association?
Why are you even talking to us? Why are you wasting our time?
We deserve the respect of a line-of-communication with the team.
We're intelligent enough to know the difference between "coming" & "being considered".
Do you not get that???
You can't even begin to understand our frustration, believe me.
The community almost single-handedly held Maemo together for "yrs" while it was an "experiment"!
Then, just as it was finally being treated with respect, it was cut down.
I lead the Maps Symbian team. This is not a discussion forum about Nokia Maps in general. This is a community for trying, testing, and giving feedback about the newest Symbian Maps Suite. It is a Beta testing community. That's why the Symbian Maps team is responding and acting here.
Each platform has a different team developing Maps and Drive for it. I am connected with the Windows Phone team and the Html5 team, but at the moment the priority in Berlin is Windows Phone and Meego is on the back burner. That does not mean that Meego will never get another new release. It doesn't mean that Meego has no future. It just means that nobody is going to be able to tell you much about this future at this time.
I am also disappointed that it looks likely that Meego will probably remain an experiment. I am a little heartbroken over it. These are business decisions that are made many pay grades above me. I don't mind taking your ire and being the person you can shout at on the forum, but my answer to your question is not changed from the very first one I gave you. I wish I could tell you more. I wish I could satisfy you. Maybe I should have just said, "Yes, it is being considered." I'm sure it is. Like I said, a lot of things get considered. "Considered" is cheap.
I do hope that you see that I am only trying to be straight with you. I will not waste your time with any more repetitive responses on this thread. I am sorry that you have been disappointed.
["I lead the Maps Symbian team. This is not a discussion forum about Nokia Maps in general. This is a community for trying, testing, and giving feedback about the newest Symbian Maps Suite. It is a Beta testing community. That's why the Symbian Maps team is responding and acting here."]
You're not wrong....
Just about everything that comes out of betalabs goes straight to Symbian.
Rarely does it see the "light of day" on Maemo6x.
Even within the first 6mth after the launch of your flagship N9.
When you'd expect there to finally be more apps for Maemo, the status-quo remains.
So much for unifying the Qt code-base (where possible/practical) so that porting's somewhat trivial.
That project seems to have "fallen off the radar" ages ago, hmmm, I wonder why.
History repeating itself...
It's almost like a microcosm of what happened to Maemo for yrs.
Whilst the much larger Symbian factions strangled one another.
["That does not mean that Meego will never get another new release. It doesn't mean that Meego has no future. It just means that nobody is going to be able to tell you much about this future at this time."]
Sure thing that's believable, given everything that's been dropped.
Another project @betalabs that's ditched the N9 recently: "Nokia Pulse"
["I do hope that you see that I am only trying to be straight with you. I will not waste your time with any more repetitive responses on this thread. I am sorry that you have been disappointed."]
What would be helpful, is speaking to someone working in the Maps/Drive team for Maemo6x (MeeGo).
Not someone who naturally won't know anything about a platform they have nothing to do with.
Nokia's too schizophrenic for me these days, I'm tired of trying to make excuses for it.
I totally support ! Please take care of the N9 too ! Don't screw up your last flaship device ! (Lumia's ain't high end devices, "yet").
Thanks to both, jalyst and tracy_rolling for the efforts let us know more. I can understand any developer who can't give us real answer, i think its impossible with such a delusional management. Sad but true.
jalyst, I already told that you that I have told you everything I can and that I won't waste your time with repeating myself any more. I have been neither silent nor indifferent.
You guys keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.
Fact is you've done little to be helpful to your end-users...
End-users that support a Nokia in control of it's own OS/ecosystem.
One that lets users more-or-less "own" their device/content.
Thank you tracy_rolling. We appreciate you taking time out of your hectic schedule to give us an answer, even though this has no involvement with you.
Jalyst. I know you are trying to make a difference, but attacking Tracy gets nothing accomplished.
Arie
Arie, once again you're misinterpreting what I've posted...
It's clear from prior posts that I was not attacking Tracy personally.
If it seems that way, well that definitely wasn't my intent...
How about actually suggesting other ways we can approach this?
Thanking Nokia for a stonewalling "definitely" isn't getting anything accomplished.
Jaylst, please go back and re-read your posts, they clearly sound like they are attacking Tracy_Rolling. Now either you are not aware you are doing this or you have no intention of it coming off sounding that way even though it does.
Here is the deal. You asked Tracy_Rolling, he said he doesn't know, that should be the end of your questioning from him.
Our best bet it to work via the Harmattan Bug Tracker. In case that wasn't an obvious one.
Let's stick to the bug mentioned by in the second post here and vote that up. We will have the most success with and through that.
How it sounds to you I can do nothing about...
What I can say, is that any frustration was never directed purposely at the individual.
I think you need to re-read the tracker, see comments 07->13:
https://harmattan-bugs.nokia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=908#c7
It's just a matter of time before devs set the ticket to RESOLVED again.*
You reopening it again won't do anything...
It's clearly something within the domain of betalabs, not the dev team.
Our only hope was here, now re-read this thread carefully from the start.
Soooo, then what... Chickens entrails perhaps?
Anyway I no longer care if we get no confirmation as-to-whether it's being "assessed".
If we're suddenly told it's almost done & ready for testing that'll be a pleasant surprise.
In the interim it's best for everyone's sanity to assume that it's definitely not coming.
We shouldn't have been naive enough to think it could happen in the 1st place.
Then again we didn't know the full extent (w/certainty) of the draw-down at the time.
We now know that it's getting beyond a joke...
It's now more important that we remind them of MIA things like Nokia Car Mode.
Things they absolutely said (often) are something that N9 buyers can expect.
*but this time w/a WONTFIX attached.
@tracy
LOL I was going to correct that one...
But I wanted to see how much longer everyone would continue to refer to you as "he" ;)
No only Nokia's a dog these days...
Not the harmattan team per-say, but Nokia as-a-whole is, esp. senior management.
@Paul
You been reading this thread bro?
It's very, "very", unlikely to happen, in fact it won't happen IMO.
Spare yourself the anguish & take that on-board as "fact".
