Are users spamming Places content?

2011-10-27 @ 16:28 by jr1415us
It's very strange that every shop near my location is a locksmith! The names of these businesses have a spam sound to them as well, such as ”fastest speedy locks".
It seems like a user spamming.

Nokia has a problem of duplicated places. Since they want to keep places updated they just add places not deleting old onces

3310, 3315, 1100, 6600, 3230, N70-1, N95, N95 8GB, E71, E72, 5230, 5233, 5800, N86.
Right Now N97, N8 (Purple/Red Screen Fixed) and E-7. Garmin Nuvi 255W, Garmin Nuvi 2565LM India, Sygic with Mapmyindia. Lumia 900 & 910 next.

It is a well known mistake by Nokia... They allowed any Tom Dik harry to add places without zooming the map to the max.. I stay in Mumbai where there is one restaurant called Goa Portuguesa.. There is only one Goa Portuguesa. if you search then you can see at least 7 to 10 POIs marked by same name of restaurant in the radius of three kilometers.. (Plus many with wrong spelling of the POI) you wont come to know which one is correct as many people have already written reviews on almost all the wrong POIs.. Its very very confusing to new person who is not local.. then what is the use of map data?.. No wonder spammers took advantage of this "Facility"

I feel Nokia should appoint trusted local Moderators to OK the POI and these people should have rights to delete the duplicate POI right there. Only this can help to improve the correct Map database.. and no other option will work.. I am sure.

thank god now they have stopped the "Add a new Place Here" option on Nokia maps and now tom Dick harry cant add any new (duplicate) place to spoil the map database..

Hi all,

I just want to quickly point out that you can always report a place from the details page if it's incorrect, no longer there etc. We do constantly work to improve the quality f the places database but it's not an easy challenge :)

Cheers

-Jennifer

I am sorry jenny ..But things don't change for years.. Check Out this place called Nebula.. It is marked at totally wrong location and that also marked after it was closed permanently three years back.. I have reported this particular place at least 8 to 10 times in different apps and also on navteq maps.. It is still there.. http://nok.it/UQ4oo

there are hundreds of places i have reported many times .. they are still there. no change.

to correct the map database is not a easy task. I say it is a mammoth task to clean the duplicate and wrong places from map data.. but trust me, it will be much easy if local moderators (not local people) will have rights to delete the place right there.. or else it will take a very long time to get it fixed.. please forward this suggestion to right people.. Once a new person get wrong info about the destination while navigating then it becomes difficult for him to trust that navigation product again.. more and more people are using location based application now so this wrong data problem needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

I agree with nitinule. Nokia maps can't be trusted in this regard.
