+ has not crashed or freezed + the magnetic compass works quite ok - address search does not support search-just-by-street-address - outdated map data (e.g. Finland, Nummela). During one navigation test (from Helsinki to Nummela and back) the navigator instructed to turn to forbidden direction -- in three different crossings. Once I was instructed to make an U turn on a divided road. - bad positioning during navigation. During my navigation test the position kept jumping if there was another road nearby. This resulted in frequent re-routings. And I was driving on a motorway... - very artificial sounding voices - the "now turn" instructions come often too late, when I am already half way turning - the magnetic compass is wobbly: especially when you walk the map keeps turning back and forth Would not recommed this as a drive navigator. Not reliable enough.

I just decided that i have to give up, after i bought my new e75 I thought I would have a top of the line Nokia product but..... Main reason why I did buy the phone was for navigation but navigating with nokia maps is in one word HORROR! After hours and hours spending troubleshooting why navigation is often not working like - loosing map data - slow during navigation (map behind real position) - loosing GPS signal No this is not something you would like to show your friends. The hope to get some help from Nokia experts in this forum was an delusion, not 1 single comment. So I start to sell my phone and move to the dark side (I-phone).

Overall, I think Maps 3.0 is a good improvement over Maps 2.0. A few kinks are still noticeable, but otherwise great program. I have the Nokia E71-1 (04) (FW 210.21.006 - 02-03-2009). I use Nokia Maps 3.0 Release Candidate with Drive Europe License. Both in German (so descriptions of menu names below may vary). Pros: - Better search functionality - more view options with Drive & Walk - 3D Buildings Cons: - I still miss a good integration with Calendar (I always enter street and city in the address field for external appointments. I wish I could simply highlight the address in an appointment and Maps would open up to direct me to the appointment's location). - There is (some) integration with Contacts. But only if you open up Maps to search for you contacts (go to Options > Address > Options > Select from Contacts). You cannot select a name in your contacts list and then have Maps open up with the contact's location. Issues I assume will be fixed by the time the final app comes around: - Often takes 10-15 tries to close the app. Selecting Options > Close > Yes does not do anything. - Had to install Maps 3.0 twice. First time it crashed every time I opened up the search menu. So, please dear Nokia developers, work on a better integration of your products with each other. The above also applies to integration between contacts and calendar (ability to connect an appointment with a calendar is missing; entering a birthday as contact detail does not create an entry in the calendar; showing all the conversations with only one specific contact (text, email, ...; maybe similar to Palm Pre's new all-in-one search features). Thank you!

Loading the new Beta version of Ovi Maps went smoothly. My E66 had broken and I got a new one at the same time I was changing to the new OM3. I was afraid that my Drive and Walk license would disappear as the IMEI code changed, but that did not happen. I looked at "my licenses" and there it was. Getting the GPS fix takes time as before but overall I have the feeling that the new programme is faster to respond. Navigation seems to start always in 3D mode. I have been using paper maps so long that I prefer good old 2D mode. OM3 should remember whether it was used last time in 2D or 3D mode and start in the same mode as before. A lot of effort has been put to creating 3D pictures of buildings. To be frank I feel this is a sales gimmic that is useless in practise. The new speed limit warning system is a great improvement. With moderate overspeed a visual warning and an audible warning only in excessive cases. I have driven past quite a few speed cameras but have not found any on OM3. Maybe they have not been listed on Finnish maps(?) I often drive along a little road that has been moved a few hundred meters and the map doesn't reflect this change yet. The old version always told me to "return to the nearest road". The new version only shows on the map that I am driving through Finnish forests. Saving the screen picture into a file was impossible in the previous version. Now the bug has been fixed. It would be nice if there was documentation that described the ral meaning of certain parametres. Shortest and fastest routes are simple to understand, but does optimized route mean? Or what does "another route" do when navigating? Overall I think a good navigator has become better! Markus (E66-1(03), 210.21.007, Maps 3, v3.01 09wk24 b01 MW OpenGL LM MN, Map version 0.1.22.103)

Now its time to wave goodbye for maemo mapper! This is a masterpiece. Appears to be faster than maps2. Also sync (including sync of routes) with Ovi is great. Download the maps with maploader is great too and view options work well (2D, 3D with very large 3D zoom). Also, maps will show correctly, e.g. lakes are not removed on certain zoom level and now I see my summer place too. Tested on E90 and N79. One request though. I'd like to have this for maemo too.... :-)

I wanted to plan a route from CH to Italy. Its very annoying with the handy, so i tried it onlie with ovi. why the route is online 740 km while on the handy its almost 800 km with the same settings? i even synchronized the route from handy to online... Thats very strange. The other thing is, that when you overview the route on the handy you just can zoom in/out, you cant move around...

Hi, although I've found a few simple bugs, all in all new NM3 beta is a great version. It's very fast and much better than the last one. I would claim that this beta is the fastest mobile navigator application I've ever seen at a mobile. The route is correct. The zoom and the whole grafic works much faster and better like in the last version. But one point which is not so fine is the nerved voice at a roundabout. At the way to my office I drive over 3 roundabouts. The first is about 50 meter from the second and the third is also only 50 meters from the second. So if I drive into the first, the voice says "drive out at the second exit, at the second exit". While this is spoken I'm already in the second roundabout and the same is starting from the beginning. When I drove through the third one the voice is still talking about the last roundabout. Altough I am a long time out of that. That makes me crazy !!! ;-) Please make NM3 not talking so much! TomTom did have this problem also in one version. In the next version they took it away, because a lot of users were nerved.

Thankyou. I have sound, the application appears to work flawlessly, and you have implemented many of our suggestions. Additionally, we now have limited traffic information in Australia. The daytime map colours are still washed out though. Again, thankyou for a much improved beta. Can't wait for the final release.

The installation from side program was without problem. The download of the maps on the phone with NML was problematics but probably due to my bad internet connection, the first time it downloaded about the 60%, the second time the 99% of the country where I live, it is a sin that there is not the possibility to resume the dowloand if there a interuption of the connection. It was a big surprise for me that OMM did not show the 3D building but only the area. I tried switch on 2d/3d view but nothing change, I tried the tower bridge in London and St. Peter in Vatican city, they did not appear. The algorithm for calculate a route is not perfect on long distance. The menu search in option has now the possibility to search POI (called "Place") but it could be done better:insert the possibility to search contacts and coordinates. The same it could be done by the navykey. About the internet setting, it was not the "always ask", the same option of the browser, the wlan search is not useful on the road because usually it is used a data connection with the carrier but if I am at home or in office I will use a wlan connection. . When I plan a route, I think it is well don that "show route" is the only option possible because I can see if the route is right or not before start it. The suggestion list in the address search for the cities is well ordered now, but I have the impression that is not work well with the field street. The option of 2D/3D maps is still the sub menu tools instead of Maps, I think that is more logic that it will be in Maps In the settings there is the function "maps improvement ", from a point of view it could be usefull for improve the maps, but I do not know if it can violate the privacy, At the moment it seems that it does not crash. I have still not tried the navigation because my license is expired but I will do it in the next days. Navio Nokia E66-1 (218.04) FW 200.21.118

Been using it for 14 days in Spain, the first week with a test licence for Voice Guiding, then bought a one year licence with some concern about the solidness of this software. Was impressed, however a few crashes while using the guiding. Why, is not understandable. Was impressed by the ability to receive inside the car. Seems a little bit complicated to make a route. The adress search in Spain was complicated due to different spelling wether the adress is given in the Catalan or in the Castellano language. The software crash should be investigated as this should not be happening. Worked as soon as restarted though. All thogether seemed to work quite well.

Hi everybody, just wanted to share my experience with NM3.0 on E66. + Installation: no problem executing all steps as described. Loaded roughly 1GB of map data into the mobile. - But it tTakes a while to start up, the splash screen just shows a progress bar on top of the start window of the E66 - this does not look very clean. + After starting the GPS signal is found very fast - this seems to have improved vs. the previous version(?) + I like the new features (e.g. map turning). Searching resp. finding an address seems also to have improved. + The map itself is more crisp and zooming is very smooth. - However, I think there is still a bug when scrolling over the map: Road-IDs and street names disappear when moving over the map, this is somewhat nasty when trying to find a certain street. - When starting the navigation (I have a license for drive&walk and traffic info) the application crashes. It worked after the start for a couple of days, but since then there's no way to bring it back to work. Along with this problem, I'm now always being asked to accept the Maps-License. - Navigation - as far as I could try it out in this limited time the navigation could be started - seems not to be very reliable: be it either driving or walking, the navigation had difficulties to locate the exact position (allthough receiving full signal strength), and misled in some cases (I was glad I did not have to rely on the navi). So in summary I think the beta status of this application is really justified. But I'm eagerly looking forward to installing a proper or at least more reliable NM3.0 on my mobile! It looks really very promising, guys! Thanks so far! Combollo

I must admit that at first I was skeptical about installing Maps 3.0 but after installing it I can wholeheartedly say that I love it, the only bugs that I've come across that sometimes it takes a long time to get my position and sometimes it locks up, though only for a few seconds so it isn't a big deal. All in all a very good product, taking into consideration that it is still in beta.

i have to say that the new map application is good.but someting is missing about the regional settings (turkey).Maybe the reason of it is to be a beta.but even its is a beta its fully functional on my n95! i have to say last one thing that i cant sycronize my map favorites with the ovi map which is on the internet.or am i doing something wrong? keep it like this..im waiting the finished version already ;)

So far I have had few glitches, i had some problems with my internet connection but after a little bit of fiddling I managed to get the internet to work correctly. The program itself has been very good, its not crashed once for me and thats with incomplete map data and all sorts of other user created mess ups. The features (Although not perfected) are very good, looking at the 3d model of the o2 Arena is very impressive. The route calculation (for short journeys at least) is very fast and it seems to be happy with the N82 as a navigation platform as the signal is strong and accurate. I would like to see full postcode information available and the speed limit reminder function is very good but again incomplete. Also the satillite pictures are really just a gimmick as they show no real detail but I do like the improved map detail at more zoomed out level. If these were fixed I would be very happy with this program and would recommend it to others. 4 stars till the full post code and Speed limit features are sorted and better satillite imagery!

downloaded maps 3.0 last night after a lot of small teething problems - couldn't get it to work until i looked at other blogs and found out that deleting the cities folder from my fone solved a lot of start up problems !!!!!!!!!!

im realy licking using v3, and thats a big thing for me as ive been using tomtom even on my n95 for as long as i can remember. My only grumble is the slow distribution of traffic information, and the non user friendly display of the traffic issues it does show you. In my mind if the traffic / avoidance information could be more upto date, then the product would be A1.

I suppose we have to remember here that Nokia Maps is still young. And it never ceases to amaze me that my phone is as good as many TomTom's out there. My biggest nag to date is with navigation. When I wish to stop at a service garage it would be really nice that when I re-open Maps I could just continue my route from where I left off. Hey it would also be nice if the navigation could have a simple way of redirecting me to the nearest fuel station or something like that. I just think that Nokia need to spend some time analysing HOW people actually drive and the kind of things that they would like to do, instead of spending time on 3D landmarks which are pretty irrelevant in my opinion. **** because they try hard, and we are getting there Nokia!

The new features are quite handy. Biggest improvement for me is the integration with maps on ovi. It's much more comfortable to manage your personal pois on PC than on the phone. I wish to see more integration with web interfaces in other programs too. On minus side is the lack of stability. The program shuts it shelf quite regularly. But when your navigating it seems to be ok, no shut downs so far in that state and that is the most important thing.

Was looking forward to this beta and had to wait a bit as I have an N95. when installing it took me a number of attempts to get the software to install fully, it kept crashing before installing completely. Then when started the maps weren't correct so had to fiddle around with the cities folder and reinstall the maps. Even though it is installed now if you run map updater it says a new version is available however this is the same version as already installed. When I used it for the first time it took approximately 8 minutes to get a gps fix, assumed this was just a glitch however each time it takes 3-4 minutes to get a fix. If I use Google maps it gets a fix in about 10 seconds so it is not a problem with my handset. I had already used a 7 day trial of the voice navigation in version 2 so wasn't able to use the voice navigation aspect which was a pity, however did test it in the car and found that it lost the gps signal frequently and on a number of occassions screen went blank and a couple of time the whole phone rebooted. All in all wasn't that impressed with the software but hopefully there will be major improvements made before the final release. Think that the voice navigation should be available to all in the beta this would lead to a larger and more varied group of users testing the software and ukltimately to a faster relase of a bug free final release.

It1s working well on my N95 in Hungary! An advice for everyone: remove old maps data (2.0) with maploader 2.0, DELETE ALL OLD MAPS FROM DEVICE MEMORY CARD before installing new 3.0 maps!

The application will not go online despite selecting a otherwise working internet connection. Also, as a side note, with what elaborate algorithm is the "total average rating" of the application calculated? To me it seems like a total of 11 stars and 5 users (before me) would yield a average rating of 2 and 1/5 stars instead of the 4 and 1/3 stars showing... Edit: After I gave a 1 star rating the average rating climbed to 4 and 2/3 stars, nice...

I found some issues in this version of nokia maps: 1. If I zoom out and then zoom in, the application freeze and I must kill it in process manager. 2. The maps are very bad...(maps in V2 were excelent) roads are visible only on near view, then they dissappear and I can't see anything 3. Roads and rivers don't fit together and there are roads that don't exist...
