Known issues - Last updated 24th February, 2011
New Check in translations: Some languages contain fairly bad translations. We’re aware of issues in Greek, German and Finnish so far. Let us know if you see any other translations that don’t make sense!
New Qype check in: Qype has a 3-minute time limitation for a second checkin in that timeframe. If you don’t wait at least 3 minutes until your next check in, it will fail.
New Check in : If you’re trying to post to a location-based social network (Foursquare, Qype) and that network doesn’t know any places for the area your in, checking in will fail for that network with a generic error message. Retrying won’t help :-) we’re working on a more accurate error message for this case. Sometimes private check in fails and pressing the “Retry” button claims that all posts have gone through, even though nothing was posted after all.
New LiveJournal or Hyves: When you add a LiveJournal or Hyves account, only the username can be used (the text incorrectly claims that your email address also works).
New Doing your first Foursquare & Qype checkin: Please be aware that it might be the case that you have to wait up to 12 hours to get the new Social Networks fetched by your phone.
“Update” feature - download Street Maps directly to your phone without a PC!
- This feature is only currently available in portrait mode
- Please note that phones without WiFi (e.g. Nokia 5230) will not work.
- Ensure that you have a memory card (e.g. Nokia 5800) or mass memory in your phone
- If you haven't done so already, ensure you WiFi access point is already in your "Internet" destination folder. If not, please add this via Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Settings > Destination (this may differ on other phones)
- If WiFi is disconnected during download, the map data will not resume and needs to be started again
- "Map Download failed!": Due to changes on the Map data server, you will need to manually delete the following files in order to use the "Update" on your phone. Please delete the following files (e.g. via File Manager on your phone) from your Cities folder (usually on your mass memory E: Drive on your phone).

Downloading Map data via Ovi Suite: If you are having issues with downloading Map data while using Ovi Suite, please see the following thread: Ovi Suite issues
Map Loader or Nokia Maps Updater: These applications will NOT work with Ovi Maps v3.06. Please use Ovi Suite instead.
Satellite view in India: The satellite view is currently not available in India.
Collections: Collections are no longer visible in maps.ovi.com, but they are synchronized and still usable in Ovi Maps for mobile.
Share via email: On some S60 5.0 devices, we have noticed that share via email may not work. However the share via SMS works fine. (Now fixed, December 2, 2010)
GPS &/or data connection left open: We have noticed that sometimes on S60 5.0 devices, the GPS and/or data connection is left open even after closing Ovi Maps (Now fixed, December 2, 2010)
Installation issues and Nokia Big Screen Application : Due to application conflicts, if you are experiencing installation issues (Symbian^3 devices), please un-install Nokia Big Screen (3 files) and re-try the Ovi Maps installation.
Useful tips
Map data Please note that if you have previously used Ovi Maps 3.06, your Map data will not be deleted after installing the updated release.
Installation (Free space): Ovi Maps v3.06 requires approximately 20MB of free space
Installation: After installing Ovi Maps v3.06, the application will start automatically. Should this not happen, it is likely that Ovi Maps v3.06 has not been installed correctly. If this happens, please try installing again.
New map data: Ovi Maps v3.06 uses new and richer map data which includes public transit lines. During installation, your previous map data will be deleted. Please download the latest map data (after installing Ovi Maps v3.06) in order to use this release. This can be done using the following method:
Pre-loading your device with map data using Ovi Suite: Make sure that you run Ovi Maps v3.06 once and download a few bytes of map data (so that the relevant files are created on your device) and then exit Maps (this is really important). Download the latest version of Ovi Suite and save data costs and time. Preload maps for whole countries and voices for navigation on your Nokia GPS phone for free with your PC.
Please note that previous versions of Map Loader or Nokia Maps Updater will NOT work with Ovi Maps v3.06. Please use Ovi Suite instead.
Installation issues
If you experience installation issues , please could you send us your installation logfile which is located on your device. The logfile will be located in either:
c:\data\ovimapsinstaller.txt or c:\ovimapsinstaller.txt (on your device, not your PC).
