Moderator moved from Nokia Beta Labs/Reviews/NOKIA maps problem. Why I cannot download OVI maps for Serbia (Belgrade) but with streets maps not only main roads. I am asking that because when I downloaded it on my 5800 xm there is only main roads but on nokia maps online there is streets maps also-WHY ?

When I installed this ovi maps v3.06, my gps position is 300-400 meters away from my location. So now, I went back to ovi maps v3.03. For me this v3.03 is more reliable than the newest version. I hope that the developers can fix this problem.

This application works in my Nokia 5800 xpressmusic with higher performance than previous Ovi maps releases. We would like to have the complete Sri Lankan Map in Nokia Maps soon. (Google maps already offer that, the Nokia Maps is the best. Thanks.

This pre-release is a very disappointment and represents a downgrade from the last version for the following reasons: - The definition of the map is worst - Less of POI than the last version (no Hospitals?) - Can't see POI on map unless I do a search - Search is not optimized This version is focusing the attention for the sharing of contents between friends but forgets the main purpose that is a navigation software. Look how NDrive has the search of a place, how it has speed limits with radars, how developed is the POI database or how Sygic has lane assist and some other features. This version makes me think again in buying an alternative navigation software (since I think updates for maps will stop for the 3.04 version) and, who knows buying other phone. UPDATE: I would like to revise my review. This 3.06 version got a lot better from this first review and seems like finally there is more attention to what a navigation software should be. The UI got improved and I really like the change on Search and Driving. Is also more usable but it still lacks some important features like the ones I posted on the suggestions to make this a true navigation app: http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06/suggestion/13101/important-features-missing The maps management was hugely improved and it's great that we can now add maps to the existing ones and, most important, check for map updates. Nevertheless, the 2* was quite unfair as it should at least deserve 3* or even 4*. I'm giving a 4* now since I think the development is going on the right direction and I'm hoping to see more developments.

Hi, I find this update for the map pretty cool compared to its predecessors. However, as like always there are flaws. The application in its present form is quite heavy and occupies phones internal memory (5800 XM). If possible, can please program the Beta version to presently install on memory card and operate as it crashes the phone a lot. Many Thanks, Ripsa

A few days ago I was in Hong Kong and now I am in Shenzhen China. I have a N97. Not once have I been able to get a gps lock and/or my position, in Hong Kong or Shenzhen China. I even allow connection to the server using my mobile provider. When I left Thailand it was working whe n I let ovi maps connect, using my mobile provider. What a shame.

The new traffic density overlay for germay rocks! The feature was avail. as extra in 3.04 and now its included! The other important new extra is "map reporter" making it easy to report inaccuracies. The navigation and speed of the app (xm5800) are great too! Perfect app, a real plus for all nokia users (of touch phones).

Current Situation (Whats Good):........ I've been using the latest version of every beta since the n8 came out and for my 5800 when that came out. this is he first time I have decided to shared my thoughts. I'm hoping my suggestions don't go unnoticed! First off I want to say that this is absolutely the best version of maps yet. I find it very fast, location lock using wifi is excellent even indoors. Pinch to zoom is fast. Works great. All of the new features listed on the overview work great. I had no problems downloading my maps via the phone, no lags, no glitches. Its really amazing how fast the newest version is. I used the transit feature when i have visited big cities. Everything is great!! Keep up the good work Current Situation (Whats Bad):............... I really miss the landmarks application on the Nokia n8, I don't think it should of been removed until all of its features were absorbed into Ovi maps. The feature I miss the most is being able to extensively edit waypoints. It used to be really easy to edit way points before, but now you can't even do it. Ovi maps "favorites" needs lots of improvements, and does not make up for the losses. you can't even select all (or even some) way points and delete them. you should have the same mark feature that's in the rest of the applications (like photos). Ovi maps also lacks some of the navigating features that were in the landmarks application such as arrow mode and fly to mode. Update:........... (Thanks to navio1973) GPS coordinate searching does work but only in offline mode. Who would of known! All formats (WGS84 Datum) work just leave leave a space between units since the Nokia n8 does not have a degrees symbol. for example write N 28 02.734 W 080 38.076 instead of N 28° 02.734 W 080° 38.076. Also inserting words like degrees or minutes for the symbol will not work. Formats that work include Decimal, DDD MM.MMM, and DDD MM SS.SSS. For the heck of it I tried UTM (WGS84 Datum) and British grid which also do not work (Not that they are needed). Suggestions:............. 1) I think its stupid that that the search function for GPS coordinates does not work in online mode or using the destop version. Hopefully a fix comes soon for the desktop version and phone version. 2) As this is a solution, I do not think it is easily to find/use. Perhaps Ovi maps should insert "gps coordinates" option in the menu for when you cick drive/walk and then set destination. 3) Ovi maps should also make an icon/option next to walk and drive called Offroad that includes the arrow mode, fly to mode, and set destination (by coordinates) and the other functions that exist on normal GPS units like Garmin or what used to be on Nokias in the landmarks application. For instance if I'm hiking or boating, a special option is needed for navigating (I'm not sure if walk works or limits you to streets). I can definitely see this being a huge marketing venue for Nokia. Imagine a four wheeler icon called Offroad, and a commercial like those of Apple's making it look so easy and innovative. Focusing how the maps work offline, I think it would be great! 4) Ovi maps also needs to edit the favorites menu to include "create new waypoints", "edit way points", and select multiple waypoints (with options like move/ delete). 5) Include a folder in favorites called contacts ;).It would pull data from your address book. Conclusion:.............. Thank you so much for everything so far!!! I'd recommend ovi maps to anyone! I know its not the ovi maps developers fault that the landmarks feature was committed from the Nokia n8! Perhaps that's all that's needed is to just release the landmarks application in an future update :P If you managed to read all this, I commend you. I wanted to write down my thoughts for developers to read and not so much end consumers. Thanks and lets all look forward to new updates!

Well.. The good thing is that is free, and brings you from A to B in a car... But compared to google maps for android, it seems rather behind. It is as if it were still in beta. And I do not mean all the silly "check in" stuff that are Beta, but right down to the basic functionality. But it works! And it WILL get you from A to B, if you don't mind the route not to be too well chosen, and if you didn't plan to use trains and buses... (The navigation has a much too strong tendency toward larger roads, and offers absolutely no integration with public transportation) I wouldn't exactly say that is is intuitively easy to use, and very similar functions might be presented in a completely different layout. e.g. Try "Drive" and "Set destination" and compare the history under "Search" and the one under "History" . (One is history of what you tried to find, the other of what it found...) Clumsy stuff, like you just after install MUST enter the map and download a few bytes over the net, and exit the application, before you can download whole country/region maps. It has an ooze of "Beta"... ...But it IS free!! So definitely value for (no) money. :-) You may argue that google maps is also free. Well partly so, only free to use if you have a flatrate dataplan also covering your travels abroad... an who has that...? If Google Maps also offered free maps downloads (fat chance i guess...), it would wipe OviMaps off the table. Eske Rahn N97mini 0592616, 12.0.110, OviMaps 3.06(587)

It took 2 hours after the installation to get the first gps lock. After that 1st time gps lock is quite quick now, even inside buildings. Maps improvement is always on but i don't know if it's any use. Maps are still not up to date. Here in Pattaya the new road (pornprapanimitthat) connects to highway 7 has been open for 16 months, yet still not showing as open but as 2010. Driving to destinations in Bangkok are spot on. but driving to destinations outside of Bangkok is a nightmare because it doesn't use tollways or motorways that it used when driving into the city. It sends you on these smaller roads straight into traffic.

Map data is old now. There is a bridge near my house, but it does not appear on the map. I think map data should be always up-to-date. Sorry for my English :)

I love the new Ovi-Maps ! Once i've launch the apps, in less than 3 seconds i get my accurate position. It's just amazing. No other competitor is as good as nokia with Maps and Gps. Offline maps + data connection to assist the gps in locating the phone is just the best solution Keep the good work!

Hi Beta Labs Team! First of all, I thank you so much for your efforts in making all those great apps! I love them and I really hope you'll never give up the good work. Thanks again!! I just have a few questions concerning the latest release for Maps: I downloaded the .sis file from your website, opened it up in Ovi Suite and installed it on my Nokia 5800 (V: 52.0.007). The installation worked (it concluded by saying: "Installation completed"), but when I try to open Maps, it shows the Version 3.04 with the old menu and the old skin. I tried downloading the Maps file a few more times and re-installed it on my 5800, but nothing changed. Actually, it says: "Would you like to replace the version 3.06 with the version 3.06", even if the Maps installed is 3.04!? Could someone help me out please? I really thank you for any kind of answer. Bye, Riccardo (from Germany)
