it happends to me too...after a while i'm scrolling the map or i try to view opened application (by keeping pushed menu button) the phone stop working, then it reboots itself or i have to turn off the phon by the on/off button

Always Freeze & reboot when starting the Ovi Maps 3.07
I don't have any solutions about this,
already uninstall Nokia Situation,but the problem not solved.
I so wanted your solution to work so I reinstalled and tried but still the same result after, now back to 3.06 again.

Me to, I got reboots when I open the app.
Sometimes I can get it to work after a few reboots, but then my phone freezes when I exit the application.
Now I have rolled back to 3.06, but the "Ride" and the "Guides" have left on the phone.
The remaining Guides are working without reboots, but it does not get my gps position.

Either this program does not play with Nokia situations, or it is just unstable. My phone has rebooted 3 times in 12 hours, this morning after using maps last night the phone would not unlock, a hard reset was required. I opened maps this morning and closed it within a 2 seconds of opening it and it rebooted my phone.
My phone is now unusable and will have to try to uninstall it. The homescreens also stopped working and the menu button stopped working, or nothing happened when pressing it.

Yes I am having freezing problems on E7 too and then the phone will reboot.
It installed fine for me but will try removing it when I get home.
Yes it installed correctly but it freeze then restart and I found a solution, after installation restart your device then go to update icon and select your country map or whatever map then start downloading map, now enjoy with new map app, finally I request more care from maps team to egypt maps with regards Geologist/ Ahmed Salah Nokia N8-00, Etisalat Egypt

I followed the uninstall instructions to remove 3.07 and all the listed applications.
But instead of installing 3.06 I tried the 3.07 again.
I got no reboots so far. So it seem to fix the problem.
Maybe there was something left from 3.06 on the phone.
*Edit: Ok, no. I was wrong. It worked a couple of hours. But after using my phone "normaly" with some gaming and surfing, the maps does not open again and I got white screens and reboots again....
Yes, I have the same problems of screen freeze and self-reboot now and then when using Maps 3.07.
Must be a bug in the software.

I sent mine in too, one thing I did notice is this was the 3rd time I installed and removed it again, but each time something would be missing from the list of installed apps.

Its Freezing My phone the phone start to restart and then I made hard reset and then I install the old version plz fix this bug and especially when i check in...
Same here, the apps startet after installation several times, but then I was not able to start the apps again. Only a black screen with the rotating dots in the middle appear, after some seconds the dots stop, some seconds later the N8 reboots.
Even after the reboot no start was possible any more.
Perhaps interference with other beta labs software? Using newest firmware with bubbles, drop, sleeping screen, big screen.
On the first look, the homescreen widget is a good idea to reach faster the needed part of Maps. Unable to do intensive tests.
For the moment I did a rollback to 3.06, done without problems.

Whenever I use the map application, it reboots my phone, it first gets frozen, and then ir reboots. The other apps like Guides or Update, they work fine but when I have to use the maps itself, I end up finding my phone rebooting! :( Sucks! Because it's a really good update

After turning off A-GPS from positioning, maps are working for me. Will report if it starts rebooting again.

From the log files we looked at, it seems that some of the components are not installing. This could be a reason for crash/reboot problem. There is an update for the component installation issue in the next release, which will hopefully help with stability/crashing problem as well.

Already install the latest 3.07 and Same problem (freezing/rebooting)still happen with my N8. after installation, the 3.07 working good, after that, exit the OVI Maps and stuck. the OVI Maps can't close until my N8 Freezing and rebooting. after that, my OVI Maps can't running anymore, when i TAP OVI Maps or drive icon,it stuck on loading bar and then freezing+rebooting.

today i have installed new version and i use it.
With this new version the prog don't crash ( n8 fw 14 ) but during navigation the screen come black for some second..and than navigation resume.
Other problem. When i exit from prog, the signal gps turn off, but program remain in backgrount ( is visible whith task manager ) and i kill it whit task.
3.07 is no fortunate beta..
The first start of this version was nice.
But once closed, the phone is extremly slow and than it freezes.
But since the rebbot it works nice. I will study the behavior the next few days.

When I open it started to freeze for appropriately 30sec. then it will reboot
I tried to install 3.07 yesterday. I don't have now frequents freezes and need to reboot the phone as i did before on the previous version, but sometimes, when i use maps i still have those annoying freezes and reboots.

My phone has freezes a lot since installing 3.07, post 5/5/2011. So using the latest version. I have disable all automation in situations. As I the phone has definitely frozen when it changed situations. Only fix is power off.

Same issue with Nokia C6-01, 14.002, tried 3.06 and 3.07.
It seems that after a reset to factory defaults the program works for the first time but after that not anymore.

intresting.. the new new beta crashed only one time right after the installation.
Since then it works now nearly a week without any problems.

I have the same problem on my c7 that other people describe here, and I just found out today that ovi maps is crashing when I have the setting home data usage on Wlan only. Ovi maps is trying to connect to the mobile network until it crashes. When I put the setting on auto Ovi maps works like a charm...

After installing Maps v3.07 my phone began freezing and rebooting several times a day.
This is surely the worst Nokia Beta Software i have every installed on my N8.
Please tell me how can i uninstall this and revert to the previous official version. No more betas versions please...

This beta version is hopeless,keep playing up,uninstalled it went back to 3.06,Also Application widget got a delay of 2minutes everytime.Cant work that one out.

The new map was working until today. It was perfectly fast and I enjoyed the new features.
Now I have installed the Nokia exempel app "Compass" and the game "LafixFree".
Life is not the same anymore... Reboots again all the time and whitescreens. I cannot event start the app now.
So I have reverted to 3.06 and everything is fine again.
Please inform me when 3.07 gets fixed finaly.

unxpectd 3d satelite imaging in maps, def bug but i like it, yes phone freezing upon opening from hs then reboots 90 per cent of time, enter via other icons e.g drive & works good. Sometimes freezes whilst performing initial position search. Phone now also reboots when anyone calls or if i make a call, this co-incided with 3.07 install, not a coincidence, this is not acceptable in an app, BETA please fix and inform us trialers, apart from these few major bugs i believe your format and usability are on the money, golf clap
Like the rest of you, this is really pissing me off so today I spent a bit of time trying to track down the fault. SO FAR I have made progress. It feels like to me the software is getting stuck at the point of trying to get our location. I have done the following & has worked for me so far. Settings / Application Settings / Positioning / Positioning Methods & only have Assisted GPS & Integrated GPS ticked. This seems to have fixed my problems. Good luck & hope it works for you too. the reboot problem on my E7 is definitely not related to ovi maps. it's a general problem. even did a complete hard reset, no other app installed -> problem persists.
i'm wondering why nokia doesn't release some kind of logger to be installed on the mobile to troubleshoot this behaviour.
my E7 is PR1.1, sw 014.002.
I tried 3.7 and it worked just fine for couple of days. Then it suggested me to update the voice guidance and during the installation the application crashed. When trying to restart, I got the reboot. It did not even help when reinstalling the 3.7. Now I have installed 3.6 back and everything is working.

downloaded and installed the newest version of the beta, the installation is successful but the application keeps freezing and rebooting.
The freeze happen when I try to download a map or updating a nav. voice. I thought it is a network problem at first but the application still freeze when selecting what icon to be displayed on the map.
Device info: N8-00 PR1.1 013.016 with Nokia bubbles and a few beta labs applications installed.
It would be nice if we could get some feedback from the dev's team about what they are doing to correct these bugs. When a new version will be available?
add to this that the phone rebooted during or at the end of installation (i looked away for 5 minutes, came back to the phone in the process of rebooting).
i can run Guides, Update, Maps, CheckIn, and Drive - at least i can launch them, but when i ran Drive the phone restarted just after getting a GPS lock (i had already selected a commonly used destination). not sure if the others would reboot the device after some time. for now, i'm uninstalling all maps related components and will reinstall the latest beta to see if that helps. This install, FWIW, was on top of an existing install of the last beta release (which worked great and was frequently used).

Similar issues in my case, but first of all, during over a month of using the 3.07 version there was no communicate about any update.
I worked with 3.07 during this period and no freeze or reboot occured until today. I tied to sync my favourites with the web service when the phone became unresponsive. I rebooted the phone (hard reboot) and tried to re-synchronise, but the same issue occured again. I don't know what happened because I have been doing the same for over a month and there were no problems.

@geolover - could you give a little more description about what happens? Any error messages, when does the reboot happen, etc? Could you send us your logfile too (instructions above)? Also what software are you using?
Today is 04June2011. I beleive by now solution to the freezing and restarting issue with v3.07 should been found. Please note that the prblem is still persisting! I installed it on the 3rd of June and from the every moment after installation, my C7 hangs for long and restarts.
I also don't like the idea of having the map other apps separately. It should be harmonized under one icon. Having a drive icon, map loader, guides etc scattered around is not user friendly.
I will email the log file to you. Please overhaul this version. I can see great ideas already in it.

After updating Ovi Maps in my C7 device, I am unable to browse maps. When I open Ovi Map my device hangs and restarts. I think this software need huge amount of RAM.
Previous version of Ovi Map has good management of their icons in one place. In this version Map related application speared all over my application folder.

but you most go to positioning methods and switched on just assisted gps and integrated gps and wi-fi/network and network based but bluetooth gps switched off
after this settings you most go to positioning server and then set disabled
but my device is n8 and maybe this settings is for symbian 3
but you trust me after this setting you havent any problems and any error and hang up and restart

keeps crashing when a lot of information (heavy vector graphics,..) is displayed and the load on the machine is high (panning the canvas or zooming). sometimes the whole system freezes and i have to restart

HiYa @EskeRahn - yes, this does work mostly - first noted by @gilcomnz above but still crashes occasionally rather than always and that's a significant improvement. It does slow down position acquisition a little though.

my firmware is 014.002. first time ive use ovi maps 3.07 yesterday and it crashed 3 times per hour.. and it still doing that :(
(no other programs are running in the background & only one widget on the home screen different than default is nokia battery monitor)

First: I like Maps 3.7 a lot. Also the widgets are nice. Many new and very useful changes to 3.6.
However, sometimes, my N8-00 RM596, 014.002 just freezes up. The screen does not respond to any touch. The only way to get it running again, is to switch it off and re-start.

Where can I find previous versions of Ovi Maps? I want to try each one until I find one that works. I am desperate to get it working again.
I tried 3.06, but it also displays the same symptoms. The GPS on the phone seems to be working. Programs that use the GPS like Compass Lite are working. I can only guess there is also something wrong with the actual map sets on the N8. How can I completely remove these map sets and re-install them via Ovi?

For C6-01, after installation it doesn't work perfectly. When i want to close the application, it hang-up the phone and re-boot the phone.
